I am now trying to use animation programs such as Videoscape3D to put
together SMO-O-OTH animations onto video tape. Vscape3D as well as Deluxe
Video Constr. Set are good at generating animated sequences. Their real
time output is not very smooth however: the animations must be recorded
frame by frame for pro results. Do you know of any quality, industrial VCR
equipment able to deliver frame by frame recording for jerk-free playback?

You might take a look at either the Panasonic AG-1950 if you want VHS,
or the Sony SL-HF1000 if you want Beta. The Panasonic has (quoting from
the Operating Instructions) "Frame-by-Frame Recording Function. This
function makes it possible to perform a momentary recording of about a
quarter of a second." The Sony has a similar capability. They both have
flying erase heads, which are essential for this sort of taping. I've used
the Panasonic, though not for any computer animation (yet!). Alas, it's at
work, and mi Amigo is here at home…..
