If anyone knows where I can get a description of the GIF format I would be appreciative. I would like to do some work in converting GIF files to Amiga formats other than HAM. Thanks!

Kevin – Graphics Support Forum (not too sure of the GO name) should have s complete spec on it and might possibly even have some example code for reading/writing. Harry

The Graphics Support Forum (GO PICS) has the spec for the GIF format online, as well as innumerable examples of code to process the images. On the other hand, you might want to use some of the public domain or commercial programs to do your work for you. HAMGIF, for example, will correctly decode images of 32 colors or less in the proper Amiga mode, as will others. Imagemaster from Black Belt Systems and Art Department Professional from ASDG both offer very good conversion support for GIF images to just about any and all possible Amiga formats. There are PD utilities to convert GIFs to 24 bit IFFs, SHAM format, and even to JPEG. If you could describe in more detail what exactly you want to do, we could probably find an existing program to do the job for you. You might choose, anyway, to roll your own program, but I should warn you that GIF decoding tends to get somewhat complex at times… –>Steve Bennett
