Received my AdPro 2.0.5 upgrade today… nice job on the installation
software! (And outstanding job on the software! <g>)

Thank you all. Note that if you used EXPERT MODE in the installation, you
may not have gotten the KS 2.0 Palette Editor. Look in your Operators2
drawer for .Edit_Palette. If you don't run KS 2.0, then this won't matter.
If you do run KS 2.0, you can install the Palette Editor by hand if you
don't already have it.

You are right. I used expert mode and didn't end up with .edit_palette
in my Operators2 drawer. I hope this competition for the best installation
program stays hot. Yours was almost slicker than the WB2.04 install. I
bought the Pro Conversion pack when I upgraded. Did I get the latest
versions of these loader/savers or should I try to apply the patches? I
guess it wouldn't hurt to run them through the mill. What's with the
"2.0.5.info" on disk 3? Version 2 is a great leap.
Any progress on a FITS loader? I stopped hunting the specs when I saw
that J. Foust had sent the specs to you.
Mark, although Perry & ASDG deserves some of the credit, the Installer for
ADPro 2.0 comes from CATS so software companies can now release their wares
with a standard installer. I thought it was pretty slick also and will be a
nice addition for the Amiga community.

J Foust has not sent me the specs as far as I know. All we have currently
is a sample image….and no spec. Please send us the specs asap.
The PCP you received is the ADPro 2 PCP…no need to run the patches.
The small 205 icons is to assist our production people (when they lose
track of what kind of disks a certain stack of disks is…they pop it in
the drive). ASDG does all of its own production for all of our hardware and
software products.
Did you hand install the .edit_palette operator?

I had sent the FITS spec to Black Belt, not ASDG. At the time, Ben
volunteered. Would you like me to upload it? I've got 14 CD-ROMs of them
here, too.
John, I'd like to see the spec.
You've got a CD-ROM drive, right? Or should I upload the 358K archive that
I sent to Ben and Perry? I should really just put it in the library at this
point… for the curious, along with the readme that tells how to order the
discs.

We've got CD-ROM on the PC on our network, we're still working… on
getting one for the Amiga(s). We have access to one for the Amiga… on a
partial time basis. But mostly, I'm curious.
I will try to get the FITS spec and send it to you. I didn't realize you
only had an image.
I assumed I had the 2 version of the PCP but had no easy way to check. BTW
2.0.5 is a BIG upgrade. There is a lot more there to work with and the
changes in the interface are making it easier to move through the program
faster.
I went back and unLZHed .edit_palette and installed it. Thanks for
mentioning it. I have only gone through part of the manual and it hadn't
come up missing yet.

I did have a problem with the install, however. I managed to install it
manually, but am mentioning it just so you're aware of someone not
installing smoothly at least!
Happened when I chose either intermediate or expert mode. I didn't try
beginner mode.
Everything goes smooth until the end of installing the Savers2. Then,
right after installing the Sculpt saver, it pops up a requestor that says:
"Sorry… an error has occurred! STARTUP: Can't find script" and a
'proceed' button. Hitting 'proceed' aborts the install process.
Well, I this seems to occur at lines 601-610 in the install script. The
program appears to be looking for a script called STARTUP, wherein it would
ask me if I wanted the 'ADPro:' assign added to my 'user-startup' script in
S:.
Well, at first I didn't have a 'user-startup' script, so I decided to
create one. Still no go. Then I did a directory called 'user-startup'
thinking maybe it wanted that. Still no go.
In short, I've never been able to get it to install beyond this point. My
machine is an A2500 (GVP 030) with HD and plenty of RAM. My
'Install-ADPro' script is 47,472 bytes long, if that makes any difference.
Last comment. A friend with a regular A2500 (commodore 030 and controller)
received his upgrade on Saturday. He tried installing it, but right after
clicking on the icon, his machine froze. He tried several things, but it
did it each time. So he ended up manually installing it too.
Just thought that you'd like to know above. Ask away if you want any more
info about my specific case, at least…. thanks for the upgrade!

That message will come up if the file s:user-startup is missing under 2.0.
This is an internal function of Commodore's installer. We actually tried to
make it fail here and, of course, couldn't get it to fail. As for a
freezing machine…could be a hardware problem…could be an interaction
between the installer and something else running on his machine. Was it
under 2.0 or 1.3?

We have also had the Installer fail with GVP hard drives on GVP controllers
-not sure why, but it seems pretty consistent.

OK, but I *did* go in and create the file 's:user-startup' and it still
stalled at that point. Don't know what the problem was, but it's done now
so I'm happy.
The crash during install was on a 1.3 machine. As far as I know he is
running a pretty simple system; again, he installed it manually, so it's a
moot point.
BTW, with 'Universal' loader selected, when I try to load a 'PCX' image I
get an error 'Targa module not available' or such…. no problem cause I
just go to the PCX loader, but what an odd message!

Please email me the image causes the Universal loader to think (a PCX image
is) a Targa image. The differentiation logic can be amended so this doesn't
happen again.

OK, one is in your section now. Good luck. Note: These were created with
the original ADPro, not ADPro 2.0. The one you uploaded is one of about a
dozen I've tried (all PCX) that cause the mistaken identity problem with
the Universal Loader.
This is no biggie, since selecting the PCX loader works just fine. It's
not like anything is wrong with the image or anything.
I tried creating and saving some PCX pics with ADPro 2.0 and all seemed
well… the Universal loader worked fine as far as I can tell.
Thought something seemed odd there. I AM running 2.0 and DID use
Expert Mode. Tried using the new palette and it just brought up a black
screen and hung there. Thanks. The scrolling lists are a great addition!
The WYSIWYG displays are the hippes(oops) hippest! One suggestion: would
the addition of some sort of "Rotate" operator be impossible, or is it
already in the works? The combo of Landscape mode & Vertical_Flip and such
is nice, but always seems to send me reaching for the manual when I don't
get it right the first time…. 🙂

JR, are you able to make use of the new palette editor or not?
Rotation and other related tools are being worked upon for future
inclusion.

Moved the lost file as you stated, and the new palette editor works
now. Didn't have time to mess with it much yet, but seems to work VERY
nice.
By the way, how come you guys moved around the "Execute (oops)
"Execute" and "Reset" buttons? I keep hitting "Reset", having been used to
"Execute"'s former position there… I'm in love with the Convolve
operator, having lots of fun there. The new displays are AWESOME! Still not
sure if I like the scrolling lists, though. They're nice, but for some
reason seem to take a bit longer than before. Must just be "getting used to
it".
Just for the record, my company has just finished producing a comic
book created all on the Amiga (the original art is all hand-drawn, but all
of it is scanned in and laid out). I faxed over a press release to you guys
since AdPro was so invaluable to its creation, mentioning the company by
name along with Soft-Logik and New Horizons. As soon as they are back from
the printer's I will send along a few copies to your attentio. I think
you'd be pleased!

Ah, yes I receive the FAX…did you get my reply? The Accept / Reset
buttons were changed in some places so that they would all be consistent.
It took me many days of use to not automatically go where Accept USED TO
BE. We're sorry for the change…but the results are now uniform.

Thanks, I was wondering where the Palette editor was.
I have a question, the other day I was watching a show on TV called First
Look and they did a piece of image composition via computers. Apparently
this is a big fad going on, where stores are popping up doing this with a
Macintosh system, and Kodak equipment. They take a picture, scan it in,
and then modify it for your liking. The sample they displays was a picture
of the reporter in a hammock, and they superimposed him in his hammock with
the background of a big city and then with a tropical background. Very
impressive, with a retail price in the $40,000.00 for the equipment.
Can ADPro do this? Take a picture of someone in a hammock, and superimpose
a background in it? I know we can do composite, but apparently the system
was able to take the small holes in the hammock and filter through the new
background as to make it look perfect.
Hope I get my thought across.

My ADPro is 2.0.4, is there any significant difference between mine and
2.0.5 that is being mentioned here on CIS?

ADPro 204 and earlier had a memory management problem which caused some
scaling operations (make a very big image just a teensy bit smaller) to
malfunction. The problem was fixed, making 205. Remember, all registered
users will be getting a new release early next year so that all registered
users will then be running the same version.
