#Hercules problems
4 messages in this thread
Carl,
I've elected to continue our discussion here on CompuServe rather
than on the Hercules BBS…since you're a Florida resident, it's probably
cheaper for you than a call to California!
Anyway, some of the problems you describe — strange colors upon
reentering 3D Studio, reboots during renderings, for instance — would seem
to indicate that somethings just wrong with your particular setup, rather
than widespread bugs. The above two problems — did the Vibrant drivers
take care of them?
I have some suggestions for you to try and some requests for
information on your system. If you don't want to leave me any of this info
on CIS, you can send me a fax at (510) 623-1112 or send me a message
on the Hercules BBS.
First, I must admit that I don't know what delta wipes are, but
if they happen to be small horizontal lines at random places, this
problem's been fixed in beta 112A. Can you educate me on this?
Second, I'm interested in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
I want to double check your memory configuration — with all those memory
managers out there, we can't check every possible combination. Do these
issues come up when you've booted from a floppy disk, or from a "plain
vanilla" configuration? In the past, simple modifications have solved
seemlingly major compatibility problems.
Third — what digitizing device are you using?
What 8-bit modes have you been running the 3D Editor and other
wireframe modules in? Have you compared hi-res vs. low-res modes? What
mode are you rendering in? Have you tried rendering in an 8-bit display
mode, and if so, do you get the same problems?
That's a bit to chew on for now. I'll look for your reply in 24
hours or so.

I'm impressed with the fast response from you personally. Thank
you!
Yes the delta wipes I'm referring to is small horizontal lines across the
screen sometimes taking up as much as of the screen area. I have not down
loaded 112a yet but I'll give that a try right away, and let you know.
Second I'll down load my config.sys and autoexec.bat as soon as get a free
moment, later today.
Third I'm using a Calcom Drawing Board II.
As far as the different modes are concerned I'll have to recheck my
settings but the renderings that I do in .tga format as single frame are
fine as far as I can tell, I have not done a full animation rendering yet,
but in low-res, using the Null or Vga drivers under the 3ds2 driver option,
I get the (deltas, wipes, horizontal lines or what ever) across the
animations, yet playing any flics from Autodesk or the CD-ROM I do not get
these lines. I has encounter the reboots when rendering these flics but do
not have the reboots when using the Vibrant Graphics driver. If your note
in my message to Herc on the BBS line Herc. drivers make the 3ds screen
very dark on re-entering 3ds after the first .cfg configuration. I believe
one other person on this forum experienced the same dark screen pattern.
And as on the re-entry in 3ds the background\color swatches become
in-active.
I hope we are on the right track to solving these problems and will get
back to you as soon as I test the other bit modes and the .tga files again
using your updated 112a drivers.
Again thanks for your quick response.

Okay, I'll wait to hear how the 112B drivers helped. As you probably
noticed, when you downloaded 112A you were actually getting 112B,
our latest.
I look forward to poring over your CONFIG.SYS file, as well…

Oh Dylan one more think,
Vibrant Graphics overs are front conversion for the material editor. In
other words as they explain it the Materials editor can be viewed in higher
resolutions then 320×200, and they recommend 640×480, as long as the front
size is changed to a larger format. Vibrant has this option on the
installation which will make the material editor full screen size at
different resolutions. I use the 640×480 and it is very nice. When usint
Hercs drivers I can only get smaller screen when going to a higer
resoolution in the material editor. Am I doing something wrong or is this
feature not offered in your present configuration.
Thanks
Carl
