Starting January 2nd and ending March 1st, CBM will be offering a PowerUp
program for the A1200 and the A4000.
To PowerUp to the A1200c (1M ram, floppy drive) it will cost you $599.
You also get Final Copy and Deluxe Paint 4.5.
To PowerUp to the A4000 it will cost you $2693. This includes ADPro 2.0
and Deluxe Paint 4.5.
I do not yet know what will be required to PowerUp — whether it'll be a
manual page from your old computer (at the above pricing, that is my
guess) or if you'll be required to turn in your old computer.
Also, pricing has been drastically reduced on the 386SX bridgeboard to
where you can expect to see it for sale for $500 or less. Also on the
A2320 display enhancer — it'll be going for $150 or less.
Reliable word has it that CBM only has about a 1 week supply left of 3000s
and 3000T/040s — and that they will not go back into production on them.
The above info is not considered confidential. I've spoken with several
dealers today who were told by their CBM reps that they can begin sending
out newsletters to their customers and begin taking orders for the PowerUp
program.
Reliable word also has it that a SCSI-II on the motherboard A4000 is
"right around the corner". My _guess_ on this is that the PowerUp program
is, in part, meant to clear the pipeline of IDE equipped A4000s.

Is it just me…or does the power-up for the 4000 seem pretty lame,
pricewise? How much does a brand new 4000 go for, outside of the powerup
program, anyway?

I don't remember what MSRP is — somewhere around $3500, I believe. Street
price varies. My dealer sells 'em for $3150. I've seen others say they
got theirs for around $2800. Even if street price were $2800, the PowerUp
program is $100 less plus you get about $400 of software with it. It's not
great, but it's better than nothing.

I've see a 4000 advertised for 2795 here in L.A. at a loca PC dealer
none the less. They've always had good prices, thats where I got my
2000 but I'd NEVER buy anything from them again!!!!!NO SUPPORT
Luckily I live near CC. And they've got a Great h/w guy, Aram.
Gonna get a 1200 fer sure!!!!

I agree, pretty lame. If you save $100 you still need the SCSI card if
you have any devices you want to hang. Then C= releases the new 4000 model
with SCSI-2 and you got to either change the Motherboard or you got an OLD
MODEL again! So where's the savings?

I thought the money part was weak but the A4000 IS a brand new model. I'm
withholding judgement until I find out what you have to "give up" to get
this price and software.
This is great news, Steve but I have three questions. You mention the
A1200 "c". I have only heard of two models: 1)with 40 meg HD and
2)without. Second, is one meg of chip RAM enough to run DPaint 4.5?
Finally, does DPaint 4.5 add anything that non-AGA chip owners could use?

The A1200c is as I described it — 1M, 1 floppy.
Are you sure about the 1MB, Steve? Commodore assured me that all A1200s
would ship with 2MB of RAM.
DPaint IV AGA won't work with only 1MB, so that makes me think that might
have been an error somewhere along the line.

That's always a possibility (that I'm mistaken) — I'll double check in the
AM.
Will 1200's be avalible with the hard drive installed and do you know
how much an A1200 with hard drive will cost?

They haven't announced the A1200HD yet, but it's planned for early next
year. No word on cost. Right now most good dealers are offering hard drive
packages with dealer-installed HDs, which is better, IMHO, as you can pick
the size that fits you best.
I agree that a user selectable hard drive would be prefered. I think a 40
meg hard drive on the Amiga (or any 16/32 bit machine) is laughable.
I called EA about Dpaint 4.5 and they said it was "months away from
release". So I'm not sure how it will be bundled with the A4000.

Sounds like a typical case of the folks who man the phones at most
companies not really knowing what they're talking about.
We've had DPaint 4.5 at COMPUTE for the preview in the Feb. Amiga Resource
for a while now, and it seems ready to go now.
What is the max you can get an A4000 upto on the motherboard as far as RAM?

You can put upto a total of 18MB on the motherboard of an A4000. They
come with 6MB standard.
