I am currently thinking of expanding my Amiga 1000 but I am not sure what
to buy. I primarily use my Amiga for gameplaying and telecommunications. I want
to start a BBS so one drive with 512k does'nt get it. I also am interested in
video which brings up another qion later. I currently own Videoscape which is
practically worthless without more RAM. Adding another drive will not provide
me with the memory I need. I dont know much about HArd drives so this might be
the step I take. Any suggestions on what I should buy to expand my Amiga would
be helpful. I have been saving for months now and I can afford quite a bit.
Now my next qion has to do with video. I have experimented with Animator and
Images and created quite good music videos which I recorded. As I stated
earlier I own Videoscape 3d and want to get into video. Would my best bet be to
buy a digitizer or go with genlock? I am interested in home videos using a
variety of video software and hardware. Any suggestions on any other video
products would be helpful.

I would upgrade in this order
1. 2nd drive <ignore this if you already have 2 drives>
2. Memory upgrade to at least 1 Meg, prefereably higher
3. Hard Disk
I can't help you with the video, I just don't know the products that
well.

Thanks alot for the speedy reply. What would be some good choices on those
upgrades you mentioned? I dont want to get a poor quality product. Also what

Neil, if you want to be able to overlay Amiga Graphics onto a Live image, then
you will need a Genlock. A digizter is also recommended. There are also many
programs geared helping you produce animations, slideshows, character
gernerator effects, etc. If you have any specific questions, or applications
in mind perhaps I can make some suggestions.

I realize Genlock would be more versatile but more than likely more
money. Is it worth the price difference? Also is the genlock compatable with
most animatione and paint programs? One more question, I read about the
Director in Amiga World and it looks to be useful with many programs and a
variety of different effects. If you know about the program is it worth the
money?

Just to clarify the two, a Genlock will let you overlay Amiga graphics
onto a live video source. A digitizer will capture an image. Some digitizers
are quick enough to capture from a live source. The two things, Genlock &
Digitizer are totaly different. To answer your question…a Genlock is
software independant. It will replace color register 0 with a live source no
matter what program you are using, even CLI!
I have The Director and can recomend it whole heartedly. Since you already
have read up on it, you know that it uses a script language, so I won't go on
and describe it. For the $70 it goes for, The Director is a steal. The uses
you can come up with it are all up to you!
