#Import TXT to ProWrite?

I'm writing to anyone who may be able to help me w/ ProWrite 3.2. It seems that I cannot import text directly into the program. Being knew to CompuServe I've been downloading a few "help".TXT files as well as a few utilities which have text files within them. I would like to be able to print them out w/ page breaks & page numbers instead of just dumping the files to my printer. Even using the "Convert" utility doesn't always do the trick. Is the a more universal utility for converting files? Or, even just a utility that would allow me to print w/ page breaks & numbers? Thanks to anyone who might help. Peter T. This is pretty easy to do with an ARexx script. I've got one that will do the job if you want it.

Peter, What happens when you try to import the files? All you should have to do is select "show all files" and then load the TXT files.

Denny, Thanks for the tip. A quick trip though my manual and I discovered the "alt+OPEN" trick to show all files. Thanks much. You saved me a lot of headaches. –Peter. – via Whap!

I use Transcript as a text editor, and have it hooked up to respond to my "edit" command in Directory Works (DW). It will often get rid of the line feeds by "joining" lines (not always, though), and has a spellchecker, so when I download some docs or info files, I'll usually run a routine spellcheck just to get rid of those errors which always irritate me later. On the PD side, View80 would allow printing w/page breaks, but I'm not sure if it works in 2.0. Why not download the late Rick Styles "UEdit?" Now, there's an editor!…..Nancy

Peter, ProWrite will show files that have .txt as an extention in its file requester even if you don't turn show all files on. Turning show all files on will allow you to load any file that does not begin with a period. (We do this to eliminate .info, .zap, etc files from the requester. With most files created for text readers you may want to use the "Every line" filter when importing the file to remove extra carriage returns. Randy Brooks New Horizons Software, Inc.

Randy, Thanks for the info on ProWrite. Adding the .txt extention instead of using the show all files really cuts down on the "unwanted" files on the requester. By far the best solution! Thank you, –Peter. P.S. When are you going to add footnoting for use collegate types? – via Whap!
