#CIA 8520 chips help me

I have been having problems with my Amax II+ and using my floppy drives.
So I bought two CIA 8520 chips at my local dealer.
I took the old ones out and put in the two new ones. Then my computer
only showed a grey screen upon powering up. So I put the old chips back
in and my Amiga 3000 booted up just fine.
What do you think is up?
I noticed the original CIA 8520 chips in my Amiga had different numbers on
them. The two new ones I got have different numbers on them too. They
say
CSG
318029-
8520PD
4691 24 The other one says here: 4491 24
Do they go in a certain order? Why different numbers?

I'm not certain but I think that your new 8520's are the latest versions
and should work. It sounds as though maybe one of them is DOA.
You might try putting one in to replace one of your existing chips, put
the old one back and substitute the same new one for the other old chip
and finally repeat the whole operation with the other new chip.
That is a lot of trouble but it is about the only thing that you can do
when you might have two bad chip and don't know which are bad.

Thanks, It is a lot of work but I'll give that a try.
The last number on the chip is the date it was manufactured. If the rest of
the numbers are the same, then the chips are the same. Maybe one of your
chips is not working. I had this happen to me once and my dealer did not
exchange it. Try swapping only one at a time to see if it works.
I did swap the one I thought wasn't working at the dealer and the same
thing happened. 🙁
My Amiga doesn't seem to like two new chips.
The exact same happened to a friend of mine after he bought two new chips I
gave him one 8520 of an old 1000 and he is back in business with 1 new 8520
and one very old A1000 8520. good luck.
Hmmm. At least I am not alone.
