Brian, NO idea why they did the install like. Your old mountlist can be found in a drawer created called OLDxxxx (can't remember the name 'cept for the old). Go and move it back to DEVS: since it hasn't been touched, just moved by the install. Chris

Brian, Basically, Commodore is moving away from the "grab bag" approach of the old mountlist. If you'll look in the "storage" drawer that was installed as part of 2.1, you'll notice a drawer called "DOSDrivers" – these are the replacements for the CBM-standard entries in the old mountlist. Each of these files is a separate "mountlist" entry (there are some minor differences, but the syntax is basically identical), and the 2.1 version of "mount" knows how do deal with these files. To mount the device, just double click on the icon. If you want the device to be mounted automatically during system startup, just move the icon from the "storage/dosdrivers" drawer to the "devs:dosdrivers" drawer – all of the files in devs:dosdrivers are mounted by the standard startup sequence during boot. As Chris pointed out, your old mountlist is saved by the 2.1 installation. You can restore it and continue to use the "mount" command as you always have, or you can take your non-CBM entries and create similar mini-mountlists like the CBM-standard ones and move to the "new way of doing things". Personally, I think the change they've made is a "good thing", although it is a bit confusing to those of us who have already figured out the old complicated way. Hope this helps…. – BobR

BS: Anyone know why the mountlist file in Devs: is empty under the new BS: 2.1 OS?Am I missing something or has this been replace by some other BS: system? Under 2.1, the system mounts everything placed in the "DOSdrivers" drawer (Under DEVS), instead of using a general purpose "mountlist". You simply create a text file with one entry describing the driverthe file is named for. Give it an icon (I copied one from one of the other drivers that were ship[ped.) Old mountlisr drivers, that you don't need can be placed in the "Storage/DOSdrivers" drawer. This is simular to the WBStartup, or Monitors drawer. I believe you can still use the mountlist. The mountlist entry is no longer needed under 2.1 and above because of the DOSdrivers setup in the DEVS directory. All you need to do now is look in the DOSdrivers drawer of your "Storage" directory. In there you will see icons named "PC0", "AUX", etc. All you need to do to mount these devices is drag these icons from the "Storage" directory, to the DOSdrivers drawer in the DEVS directory. Next time you reboot, those devices will automatically be mounted. Makes it an easy way for new users to install devices without having to worry about a mountlist. However, the mountlist is still supported. If you create a mountlist entry, and then from the shell do a "mount ZYZ:", it will be installed. John – K7KB (Flying via AutoPilot)
