Amax & the 4000?
17 messages in this thread
Does anyone know if the Amax-II+ setup will work with a 4000? I would like
to get a Mac emulator for some projects but was wondering about the
Hardware/software compatability. Anyone heard from Readysoft if they are
working on a 256 color emulator for Amax and the AGA chipset?

John,
When I last spoke to ReadySoft they said getting an AmaxII+ working with
the 4000 was merely a software upgrade away, in January(?).
Since they are using the MacPlus ROMs (black and white), I don't think
we'll see a color (MacII and greater ROMs) AmaxII+.
It'd be poetic justice if they came out with a working Mac II emulator
before Emplant gets theirs reliably working.

Who is Emplant, what are they coming out with? ===Scott
Emplant is a MAC II emulator.
Steve
Does Emplant require Mac ROMs? If so, what kind?
Which Amiga models will it work with?
What is it expected to cost, and when is it supposed to be available?
Do you have a phone number for them?
Thanks, ===Scott
Yes, Emplant requires Mac ROMs, but I'm not sure what kind. It's a plug
in board, and it's already been released. When it was first released,
people were having a lot of problems with it. I'm not sure what the
current status is. Sorry, I don't have a phone number.
Perhaps someone with experience with the Emplant will speak up….

Steve:
While I don't have personal experience with Emplant, a friend of mine
bought an Emplant card, and he says that he's gotten it running in his
A3000. At the moment it doesn't support system 7 but there is supposed to
be a fix soon. Do you know a customer of Brett's named Raphael? He has
Emplant up and running, and he says that in B&W mode it's slightly slower
than AMax (which he also has), and in 16 color mode it's dog slow, but it
is multitasking with the Amiga, where the AMax doesn't!

As a matter of fact, I do know Raphael. Thanks for the Emplant update.
Steve
I notice Emplant owners have been real quiet for the last few weeks.
How's the project coming?
Has anyone been able to actually get it running reliably?
(Enquiring minds want to knw!)
Thanks,

Erik,
I would love to give you some more news on the Emplant (I need a nickname
for this thing…the Emptrash? Empoop? Floorplant?), but I am still
waiting for my new Sybil…I got one of the 'bad' ones (are there any good
ones out there?), so I cannot yet read Mac floppy disks.
However, from a brief scan of their BBS, they are still updating the
software at a BlackBeltian rate. I think that many of their promises are
fufilled, supposedly.
Of course, I have yet to hear of anyone using one for useful work. We
shall see…

Thanks for the input. Sorry to hear you are not up and running yet.
I WOULD really like to see a multitasking COLOR mac emulator for the
Amiga. It is unfortunate that nothing has surfaced yet.
Thanks again, & have a Happy New Year!
(May the great Amiga-goddess bring you a working Emplant by then!),

How do we go about adding this to our official forum vocabulary <g>?
Ben, are you listening?

I meant to mention:
I, too, have an AMAXII+ card, and for B/W Mac emulation you can't do
better! (In My Opinion)
I'd like to see the Emplant work, but if you need a time proven solution,
go with the AMAXII+. Most people have no problems with that product.
(And the ROMs are alot easier to get through legal channels than for the
EMPLANT.)
Happy New Year,
Erik Flom
Last I heard there were a few things that people were able to run, but it
still crashed liked crazy. That was a few weeks ago. The situation may
have improved by now.
Steve
Albeit a non-functional one…

My buddy has the Emplant and has it working with 6.0.5 of the MAC OS.
He says that it works "OK" in 16 color mode on his A3000. Says it's
pretty slow. He gets much better speeds when running in monochrome
mode. It is multitasking with AmigaDOS but has found that many of
his "hack" commodities are incompatible including one CBM ships with
2.1. The bottom line is that it is working and seems to be improving
constantly. I personally use AMAX but when and if the Emplant is as
stable as the AMAX, I'm going to make the switch.

Scott,
Emplant's Mac II emulator (Color, 256k ROMs) is, as far as I can tell, a
gleam in the eye of one individual, and a circuit board…
It doesn't seem to be running in any end user's Amiga, from what I gather
on CIS. That's about all I know about it.
Another company, ReadySoft, makes and has been shipping for years, a Mac
Plus emulator (B&W, 128k ROMs).
I have their AmaxII+ card, but my Rev 4.3 A2000 motherboard is apparently
unsupported (read: ancient and flaky) and is not working for me.
