Toaster on 4000?
13 messages in this thread
I saw mentioned here that someone has something that lets you use a Toaster
with a 3000… Can anyone tell me what it is, what it costs, and whether
there is a way to use the Toaster on a 4000? Thanks. ===Scott
There are two products that that let you add a Toaster to the 3000. One
is the Toaster Cozzy….and I forget the name of the other…
The Toaster doesn't work with the 4000.

Talking about the Toaster Cozzy, Is there anything developed for the second
"video slot" in the Cozzy? Is it a second Amiga video slot or a custom one?
Sorry…I'm not familiar with the particulars of the Cozzy. I believe
there is a product announcement in the libraries that might have more
information.

Is it likely that there will be a way to put a toaster in a 4000? Has
anyone annouced any intention of such an adaptation? ===Scott
I don't know. No one has announced anything about adapting a Toaster to
the 4000. Since the Toaster depends on the ECS chips, I think NewTek will
have to figure something out.

>Since the Toaster depends on the ECS chips…
I'm a little confused. I thought the Toaster required the original Amiga
graphics chipset, and that ECS (e=enhanced?) was what the 3000 had which
originally didn't work (but apparently someone figured a way around that).
And I thought that the 4000 could emulate the older chips, so that things
that required them could still work (which is why I had hoped that there
might be a way to use a Toaster in the 4000, either "officially" or with
something like one of the 3000-style adaptations, depending on what it
needed). Where am I wrong? ===Scott
Whoops…. I meant it will work with all the chipsets before the 4000.
The problem with the 3000 was corrected with a software update from
NewTek. I don't know the specifics, but I know people have tried the
Toaster in the 4000, and it just doesn't work. I presume that it's
because of the AGA chipset, since it's been said many times that the
Toaster is closely tied to the chips.

Steve,
Apparently the Toaster Cozzy guys have said that NewTek has a software fix
in testing that will let you use the Toaster with the Cozzy and an A4000.
Hey! That's really great news! Hope it's true…
Steve
Steve,
I've heard the same thing. The software upgrade is due out sometime this
month…

If it's true, it would have been a smart move on NewTek's part, to make it
A4000 compatible via the Cozzy.

There's 2 products that let you use a Toaster with a A3000.The Taster
Cozzy(about $700) and the Toaster Oven(about $425 but requires more
work since you transplant yer Motherboard etc into the new Toaster
Oven Case with larger PS and more Drive Bays)
