Believe me, I've checked everything from free memory to high memory, running under DOS and/or Windows (interestingly enough, Windows Bookshelf is the only CDROM I can get to run). I've tried every I/O address in combination with the zero wait states jumper, I've pulled boards out of my machine, rearranged cards. The only things that remain to be checked are the cable (NEC is sending me a new one to test), the card itself (?), or some deepseated incomatability with my motherboard, drive controller, or some such thing. (I'm running on a Gateway 2000 486/33 with 16 meg RAM, an Everex EV-623 video card, and an UltraStore ESDI controller.) As I mentioned, the PAS/CD-ROM adapter that came with the NEC works fine as have many other CD-ROM adapters and drives that I've tested in the past. So I'm hoping, though not hopeful, that the cable is culprit. If not, I may just give up. Obscure suggestions are welcome. Thanks. Larry
