#Need Good Cookbook Disc!
9 messages in this thread
My wife has just sprung this one on me – she wants a new cookbook. I
thought that since I just bought the CDROM drive, I might find something
nice on compact disc (preferrably under Windows, if not then DOS). I know
there are a few titles out there, can anyone recommend one?
Thanks, Bill Hines
Bill:
I saw a really inexpensive recipe disc at a stand run by Mr. CD (?!) at
CDROM Expo. Someone looking over my shoulder said that it (and others by
the same publisher) had a lousy interface, but I have no way of knowing.
Max Systems (Mr. CD) is at 800/444-MRCD. Other vendors in the TTLVND.TXT
file in Lib #10 may have other suggestions.

Bill – If you want a cookbook and health/fitness info too, try Sante CD-ROM
at CompUSA or CS or Babbage or??
Phil
Phil,
Is 'Sante' the title or the publisher? Do you know if any mail-order places
have this?
Thanks, Bill Hines
Sante CD-ROM is the title, Hopkins Technology, the publisher. It's carried
by Mindware (800) 447-0477. Or you can call us 800-397-9211. I'll be glad
to send you a flyer for your address. Best to buy from someone other than
us cuz we have to charge full list.
Phil
Phil,
Thanks for the info. I checked into Sante, and decided against it because I
want something that is more "cookbook" than nutritional advisor. I was told
the recipes in Sante are nutrition-based and that you can add your own, but
I want something more mainline. So the search continues <g>.
BTW, "HopTech" – sounds like you might add a title for bartending also <g>!
Bill
Bill – not sure if there is anything more "mainline" since the 415 recipes
are directly from her home family recipe file.
Hoptech – Yeah, I also get a ribbing over in the homebrew forum.

Bill,
I just ordered a couple of CD-ROM's from ERM. The flyer that came with
them lists a CD-ROM called "Colossal Cookbook". It's only $19, so you
wouldn't loose much if it wasn't any good.
The description says "Includes over 4000 recipes, more than 'Joy of
Cooking.' Excellent recipe cross-reference and search! Includes health
and nutrition guides, meal planning, low cholesterol diets, cooking
instructions, more! The large cookbook is in MealMaster format, and
contains over 2000 recipes. Other cookbooks on the disc inlcude ethnic and
regional specialties plus Vittles and Edna-format recipes."
I've ordered from ERM twice now and have not had any problems. Their phone
number is 800-776-5865.
