I loaded a Nautilus disk with its SETUP, and got
Application Error TBOOK caused a general protection fault in Module
VGA443.DRV at 0001:18A5
The next box said
An Error occurred while attempting to open NAUTILUS.TOC.
Reopen TOC: Find Window Nautilus.TOC
I can run some applications by double-clicking on the application exe
file in file manager, but can't get in t he front end of Nautilus as above.
Could you give me a clue? Tnx…. BP
Bob I am not the Sysop but I found your question very interesting. I got
exactly the same message. I got a General Protection Fault at the same
address with the VGA443.DRV. I am running a 486/33 with a SNAPplus Video
Adaptor with 1Meg on board. I found that by changing my display I cured
the problem. To use my Video Cam on my computer I had to have my drivers
set to 640×480 32,768 colors graphics. Once I changed my display to
640×480 256 colors it cured my problems. Unfortunatly I now have to switch
back and forth now if I want to us my camcorder. I don't know if this
helped you any but if not maybe the answer you get from Steve might help
me. Kb
For what it's worth, these kinds of problems are usually the result of bugs
in the video card driver.

Thanks Ron I was planning to contact the company this week.
Kevin… I stumbled onto the exact same solution. I was using the
640×480/32K driver (apparently vga443.drv) and changed it to 640×480/256
and solved my problem.
But I really don't have any use for 32k. I was just using it because it
was the highest resolution. bp
I'm happy you're happy. But I'm still bummed out. I am going to get ahold
of Cardinal this week and ask about an updated driver. Kb

I'm glad to see that you got some pointers in the right direction. As Ron
mentioned, 99.99% of the time the problem you describe is the result of bugs in
the video driver. I truly hate to "pass the buck" as it were, but honest,
that's (usually) the case.
If the problem went away be switch to a different driver (from 32k back down to
256 colors), then you've definitely nailed it. You'll have to get an updated
driver from the company.

Margo(like that name) just contacted Cardinal. They gave me the number for
their BBS(why that isn't in the manual I don't know) where I can download a
MCI driver and they said that in two weeks they should have a Beta AVI
driver. Lets hope this cures what ails me.

You mean for capturing video? I assume you know that the AVI runtime
driver is already available (and on the disc in VFWSETUP directory)…
Or possibly, is this a runtime driver that takes special advantage of
your card…?
