I am confused about the role of memory management programs with 3DS. In the past, I never included any memory management running 3DS. I was under the impression Phar Lap ran fastest on its own. In the README file in r3 is the line, "For optimal rendering speed on a 486, we recommend the use of an extended memory manager. We have found that some 486 computers will render at almost twice the speed. . ." Here are my results of rendering the sample model CHEVY at 512×480 to RDPADI under DOS 6.2: No memory managemet: 5 min 32 sec HIMEM only: 5 min 41 sec HIMEM & EMM386: 5 min 56 sec QEMM 7.03: 5 min 56 sec What am I missing here? TIA.

Mathew Being new at the business of computers and experienced w/ graphics I was wondering what happens to my hard drive during large file handling? Some graphics people talk about sector problems and the need for a good management utility. What do I look for ? Would an NT machine have the same problems that a dos machine has? I'm going to buy a EISA SCSI-2 controller bundled w/ a SCSI hard drive, the Maxtor 540mb w/ 8.5 read/rite. Will this change help me or not much. Greatful for help. Thanks, Gary

Mathew: Some computers are brain dead, and have a hard time with more than 16 MB or so without a memory manager. If you had one of these, the memory manager would definitely speed things up. Don't sweat it — you're setup is fine. Evan
