Anyone,
Is there anyone having trouble running 3DSr2 or r3 with a Pentium 60Mhz system.
I am thinking about purchasing 1 or 2 of them. I heard you need to be careful
because some systems will only run like a 486-33, or something like that. They
do not run at the true speed that they were suppose to run at. Maybe its just
a rumor. If so, or if not so, should I stick with the big names (ie. Gateway,
etc.) or get more for cheaper and will work just as well? Or are there any
better options out there besides Pentium. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!!

There are a number of Pentium's at Autodesk and they all run 3DS perfectly (and
about 2.5x faster than a 486/66).

Mike, I'm running 3DS3 on a Gateway P5-60 and have experienced a 100% speeddup
versus my Gateway DX2-66V. –Rick Rodriguez
I think if you buy wisely you'll have no problems with your Pentium. It's just
like with 486's, get a good motherboard and things will run fast. I've got
some AMI Enterprise III's ('66) that run 20% faster than an ISA NICE
motherboard with the same CPU!
I'd look at the DEC, Gatway, or Compaq (if you're a millionaire) machines, as
they appear to run efficiently. The DEC will allow you to upgrade to the AXP
chip in the future, also, so this is the route I'll go with Pentiums. With
some Autodesk products moving to NT, AXP chips are sounding better and better.

Good choice, John. It seems that you will have a DEC LX Pentium/66 next January
too 🙂 Now, wait a year, squeeze the Pentium and get that Alpha AXP version
3dsr3 for NT <g>

No doubt about it. As soon as 3DS is available for different CPU's I'll be
checking it out.
