CD32 vs. Jaguar

Can someone please give me an honest comparison between CD32 and
Jaguar? I am a big fan of Amiaga (especialy my 1200) but with all
those roomers about Jaguar going around I feel a little lost.
I have no idea how to compare them. However, I will be surprised if the Jaguar
is any good. So what it has a 64 Bit bus ! The 64 bit bus is for the two
coprocessors (graphics and sound, I think) do you realize, that hanging off
that bus like a bloated tick, which is in actuality running the whole show, is
a 68000 ?????!!!!
Atari is notorious for tooting their own horn, and falling short. They are
gambling everything on this venture. IBM is gambling very little, and hopes
they'll get a foot into the game-machine door. Let's face it, IBM's track
record with small computers is dismal. Okay, okay, they had the PC, do you
realize how many failures BEFORE AND AFTER the PC/XT/AT there were ?
I do not see Jaguar long for this world.
I watched CNBC on Wednesday and they were reporting on Atari's future
and the Jaguar. They said the Jaguar is "no big deal" and "questioned"
Atari in '95. Having that on national TV doesn't help Atari.

The bottom line with game machines are GAMES. If the software isn't
there it doesn't matter how many bits the machine has. Judging by the
track record of the "new" Atari AND Commodore I think both machines could
be in trouble. Both companies can not handle this on a "business as
usual" basis. They have GOT to make sure the software is out there and
that the hardware is easily avalible or people are going to go elsewhere.
Look at the news from the WOCA Toronto posting in Hot New and Rumors:

I'm just wondering when the U.S. is going to see some of those CD32
games along with displays in Toys R Us, Kay Bee, The Wiz, etc.
They are announcing at CES in January, so I would guess not to long after
that. I guess it depends on the deals CBM has worked out with retailers.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here in the Detroit area everyone
seems to be going crazy over the Panasonic 3DO. Last weekend there were HUGE
crowds around the machines at the local malls. I wasn't impressed by its
graphics, but I must admit it seemed to be a very 'fast' machine for the amount
of information it was handling on the screen. The CD32 had better get on the
rack soon if it's going to win over any of these new systems.

They had the same 3DO display here at the Mall of America in Minneapolis
a couple of weeks ago. There wasn't what I consider huge crowds here, and
this was in a mall that averages 50,000 to 100,000 on a Saturday or
Sunday. CBM is now producing NTSC units, and will be introducing CD32 at
the winter CES in January. With 3DO titles available can be counted on one
hand, only one manufacturer producing 3DO right now, with a price around
$700. The also Jaguar is not even in national release, nobody is going to
jump out to a quick lead. Look at how long CD-I has been out, and it still
hasn't set the world on fire. The horse race hasn't even really
started yet.

I would consider a group of twenty or more people gathered around a
huge crowd. What concerns me is the advertising jump that the 3DO
seems to have. No, I've never seen an advertisement for CD-I. No,
I've never seen an advertisement for CDTV. Yes, I've seen
advertising for the 3DO in the local papers along with several
national publications, not to mention the Nintendo-style display they
seem to have at every Hudson's department store in the area. (Yes,
the games are few and don't look too hot, but that can change.) It's
Commodore's past track record of advertising our faithful Amiga
computers which may stall the CD32 long enough for some other system
to take hold of the market. I just hope they (Commodore) know what
they're up against here.

I guess the idea of a crowd depends on the person, oh well. Actually
right now CD-I is advertising, (at least national television) more
than anybody. They have their 30 minute infomercial, and scattered
30 sec spots airing on a number of cable channels. They also have
print ads in a number of magazines. Sears has had in store displays
for CD-I for months if not a year. With all that, it still is having
trouble after all this time. 3DO is a brand new product, with a type
product that has had trouble selling itself to the buying public,
with only a few titles and a list of around $700. Nothing is going to
happen fast in the race. Commodore has said they will be advertising.
From what I understand, they played a TV spot for CD32 at WOCA
Toronto, so they have not been sitting still.
