#software suggestion?
10 messages in this thread
I've been using Deluxe Music Construction Set for a few years now, and am
finally looking to upgrade. The primary packages I'm considering are:
> Deluxe Music II
> OctaMED Pro v5
> Bars & Pipes Pro 2
I do most of my editing in classical format, but am becoming inticed by
the control and flexibility offered through the 'tracker' format.
Specifically, can anyone tell me…
> Does OctaMED really play 8 Amiga-internal voices simultaneously?
> Will any of these packages allow easy importing of my old DMCS files?
> Anyone have any positive/negative comments about any package?
> Should I be considering any other packages as well?
Any thoughts and comments are most sincerely appreciated.

Rob,
I use Bars & Pipes Pro. I have no experience with any other musical
sequencing software you list. But, in my opinion, B&P Pro is one of the
best damn pieces of software to hit the Amiga. The design is intuitive and
utterly flawless. I can't say enough good things. Great for clasical
compositions. And it gives you printed note transcriptions of your work.
BTW, the One Stop Music Shop sound module card is a must have as well.
Your Amiga will sound like a symphony. Unless you have external midi sound
engines, look into the One Stop.

Steve –
Thanks for your reply. Your opinion of B&P Pro is right in line with the
other feedback I've received.
Your note sounds (no pun intended) like you have the OSMS board – I gather
that you like it. Do you find it easy to use, and would you recommend it
to someone with virtually no synth programming knowledge/experience?

Robert,
I recommend the One Stop Music Shop, without reservation!!!
I installed it in minutes, and with a bit of tweeking and scanning of the
manual, got B&P Pro to interact with it. They are natural partners. You
simply have to configure your song files with the correct Midi-IN and
Midi-OUT Tools in the respective entry/exit pipelines.
Also, you can access the OSMS editing features directly from the B&P Pro
environment. It's so simple. You'll love it!

If notation is a priority, go with Deluxe Music 2.0 None of the other
sequencers can touch it for notation. Nick

Thanks for the comment about DMII – have you tried the MIDI functionality
of it?

I like the ability to name instruments in the new Deluxe Music, as well as the
MIDI options you can assign to an instrument. It reads MIDI from an instrument
as the old version did, but does not read rhythms – so you're still stuck with
"step-time" score entry. RiffGrabber is a new product that solves that
problem. It multitasks with DMII, records your live performance, quantizes it
very slickly, and exports it to Deluxe Music. Just like magic. Nick
I have the DMII – Riffgrabber combination and it works great! Can any of you
guys get the Player to work?
John
Thanks for the RiffGrabber plug. I never try the DMusic player. I wonder if
the reason the player does not work for you is related to that problem with the
instruments, where you have to drag them over to the left before the staff
realizes they're there and plays the material with these instruments. Nick

Who makes/sells RiffGrabber?
