Has anyone actually seen a 3DO? I've played with one here in Orlando
and let me tell you…after all that hype it is a *BIG*
disappointment. Great, it can move 60 million pixels per second but
320×200 (interpolated to 640×400) and 256 of 32,000 colors?! It only
looks good from over 6 feet away. It looks horrid close up. CD32
blows it away (the demo disk Flight Sim is great and the Zool opening
has sold a couple of units itself.)
Unfortunately in my area where several stores has 3DO not a single
store has a system set up where I can look at it. They have a box
and a handfull of games.
I really thought I wanted a 3DO.. but I kinda doubt it now. I have
yet to see a positive piece about it anywhere since the Panasonic
release.
However, CD-i on the other hand looks very nice. The software seems
to be there now and I have played with a unit that has the FMV
module. The game demo disk using the FMV is quite impressive.
I want to see CD32 before I make my decision. I pray it shows shortly
here in the US with the FMV module. I believe that to be the key.

All the stores here are like that. So I went to West Chester and
played with Commodore's. It sucked, at least with the software that
was available. It must be capable of much better.
Sigh. I have been playing with a CD-i player with the FMV module…
I hope CD32 looks as nice.

I'm shocked (NOT).
I saw a news clip today that was VERY impressive on 3DO. Of course I've
never actually seen one. CD-I I saw in a Sears(?) looked pretty good
though (with small crowd blocking my view).
Will I ever, actually, see, a real CD32?

Just wondering how much I want that CD32 (I do, I do, I do). Maybe, that's
my new Amiga mantra?
CD32 is *vastly* superior to CD-I, and cheaper to boot. Don't buy
anything until you see it.
Nope, I haven't seen one. The 3DO guys have some pretty flashy ads on
TV though.
We've got one set up where I work. I played Crash and Burn, or
whatever the game is that comes with it. It was OK, but I wasn't
really impressed with it. The controller is a clone of the SNES
controller, by the way. Also, It sure takes a long time to load
information off the CD-ROM. The game has little Quicktime like
windows where each character tells about his/her car, and the video
does look better than any Quicktime or Video for Windows clip I've
ever seen. When we get some more games in I'll send up a post on
them (Gee, I've always wanted to be a video game reviewer!!)

SNES controller clone, I guess, that figures. I'll be waiting to hear what
you have to say about them as you see 'em.
