#DPS S-VHS Recorder

I have decided to take the plunge and be one of the first to get (debug?!) a DPS PAR. Can anyone reccommend a resonably priced S-VHS recorder for recording output from the PAR? I have been renting/borrowing frame accurate equipment up to this point and have no recording equipment of my own (other than my consumer level equipment). I can probably get by w/ the consumer gear for a while, as I will be using the PAR for previews but will want better for "low budget" production work. Any Ideas? A local dealer has recomended the Panasonic AG1970 for recording output. Is this a dead end? It looks like a "prosumer" type deck and has a 5-pin editing connector. Will this interface w/ anything worthwhile? (V-lan,RS-422/232?) Thanks for the input! –Nat'n Now if Santa will only bring me the Exabyte 8505 I wished for…..I've been good…really!

Nathan, Is the DPS PAR actually availlable yet? I'll try to be the next one on the block testing it out but I haven't any news of the unit shipping. I'd also be interested in a suggested VTR to team up with the PAR. Best of luck, Bob

With a PAR you don't need frame accuracy so I put the money into a good straight recorder. Look for Signal to noise specs as the main criterion for decision.

Robert, For what it's worth, when I'm not doing frame accurate work I will tape to a Panasonic AG-1960. Its a good solid S-VHS prosummer deck. The new ones are AG-1970 (I think they added TBC and sound output on slow-mo). -Ralph

For Pro-sumer level video, Nathan, the AG1970 will probably do you just fine…I'm gonna replace my aging JVC unit with one very soon. Can be had for around 1k mail-order, I think… -Alan Iglesias

Nathan, I would agree that an AG-1970 should do the trick. Good luck with the PAR purchase. I'm hoping to have funds for one by the time they release it.
