Hi Don,
A little late, but here I'm. We have the 2.5 version of Photoshop and the 2.0
of PhotoStyler. Both great programs, and I think that Photostyler is superior
to photoshop. I believe that PhotoShop 2.5 only beat styler in the filters, but
Styler is simpler and have better features and it is easier to use. I think
Pshop have a plug-in for KCMS, but styler is build within and for the Kodak
Color Managment System. If you want to get cheap color accuracy, Styler is the
best way to go (specially if you have the Precision Transform file for your
printer 🙂 We are going to beta test the PT for the Kodak ColorEase PS -it's on
the mail now) If you are serious about printing, get Photostyler.
It seems that the Kodak Color Managment is going to be the next standard in
color managment. Microsoft is building it in Windows 4.0 and it will be used in
all the future Windows versions. That and the PhotoCD Pro are changing the face
of electronic publishing and photography. Until today, there have been too much
solutions from different vendors. With Scitex, Hell and the rest of the highend
crowd supporting PhotoCD, this business is taking a new and exciting shape.

for monitor vendors is tools that build a custom profile on your machine. These
are already available for our system on the Mac from RasterOps, Supermac, and
Daystar Digital. I expect more and on the PC as well. These yield better
results than pre-canned ones.

CF: YES. I am under NDA, but users should be pleased!

"aware" to be part of the uniform color managment or have we to wait for the

CF: There are certain features that will now be available to "aware" apps, but
_currently_ shipping application will be able to achieve color matching without
re-coding. I can't say more. sorry.
Nice, mmh? Sure that people hate Windows (me too) but there are a lot of things
happening arround it. Too much to ignore them and turn our heads to other
operating systems.

Your comments re photoshop and 'styler were very interesting. My observation
that I liked photoshop better was based on the experience I have with 'styler
v1.1 and what I learned in a couple of hours on a clients ver 2.0. Comparing
this with a 45 minute demo of 'shop at a trade show. Several of my peers in
the area use both and prefer 'shop as well. You have given me the balance for
the other side. I don't do a lot of work in this area so I need a package that
is fairly intuitive. I also have corel paint, and photofinish. Colorlab too.
Some of these came with my scanners. I generally use colorlab to operate my
scanner which is a Howtek PCS, non twain compliant.
I think it is a matter of tastes. I know people that use styler, other shop, we
both 🙂 As primary features, I found styler to be faster than shop and have a
better memory managment. Styler 2.0 don't have anything in common with 1.1a.
But I'm sure that pshop will do the same work for you, so go ahead with it 🙂
