#WCT CD-ROM image catalog

Do you wish you had a quick way of viewing the images on the World Creating
Toolkit CD ROM? Well I did, so I have started cataloging the map
directories.
What I've ended up with is 640 by 480 TGA's of postage stamp images (36 per
page) including filenames. These targa's can be viewed on screen or printed
out for quick reference. Before printing I took them into Photostyler
and replaced the black background with white and printed them (landscape) thru
Corel Draw to my HP 550C. Although they are not perfect they may save you
time in searching for images.
I have gotten so much from this forum that I decided to upload them here
for all to use. The first one METALS.zip contains 1 page (35 postage
stamps) and will be uploaded as soon as I figure out how.<g>

Nice gift to the forum, Ralph! I'm sure many here will find your work very
useful. There's nothing like a utility like this to help one find the map they
need quickly…

Hey everyone it's my pleasure to anounce that my first upload went OK.
I've got 2 more sets done tonight, CLOUDS and TOPICAL.
If you put these in your images directory it works out real nice.

Thanks for the reply. I am assuming you downloaded one of the image
catalog files?
I needed a cloud background for a project yesterday, so I did a VIEW IMAGE,
looked at CLOUDS.tga and seen SKY01 would fit perfect (clouds only around
the edges) then picked it as a background. What a time saver!
Should have more of the directories done soon, hopefully this weekend and will
U/L them soon after.

I've downloaded all 3, so far. It's a fantastic time saver and convenience.
Much friendlier than the documents on the CD. Here's a wishlist item: a
thumbnail viewer built into 3DS that lets one scan any directory's images, in
any of the usually supported formats. Save *you* some altruistic hassle at the
next release!

To get automatic thumbnails of all your files in virtually any format have you
tried Graphic Worksop for Windows? Its share ware and available via one of the
Graphics forums. It's a lot easier to use than the DOS version and its also
great for remapping/converting 24 bit .tif's .tga's to 256 color .gifs. If you
are familiar with it could you tell me if you have observed a less than
adequate result using GWSWin for scaling down images? I seem to get more loss
through GWSWin than rescaling in Photostyler.
Robert – I have not used *any* utility to see thumbnails on the CD. That's why
the uploads of those were helpful to me.
Your comment re an integrated image browser in 3DSr3 is precognitive, David. I
can't say any more except that IPAS3 can make an app like that extremely
graphical and interactive.
