#Medit Ellipsoids
5 messages in this thread
Hi. I'm having a strange problem in the R3 Materials Editor. When I first
load it, everything seems to work fine. Then, sometime in the middle of
working, after I've been flipping back and forth between modules, I'll come
back to Medit and the samples will render as ellipsoids instead of spheres.
They are squashed vertically. If I switch to Cube, it does a squashed cube.
With Background Pattern on, it displays the pattern fine, not squashed, but
with the squashed shape over it. I don't think it's a video card problem,
since I've tried it on two very different machines with different video cards
and setups. I don't really know how to repeat it, it just seems to happen
after I've been in Medit at least one during the session. Any information on
this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Aaron
This seems to be a bug. I've noticed it too. The problem seems to occur after
switching aspect ratios. If you keep your rendering driver @ Vibrant 640×480
1.00 aspect, this doesn't happen. But if you switch to VGA320X200 driver and
then back to Medit, el squasho. I believe Jack from Yost Group has already
confirmed this as an "incredibly obscure" bug. Well, it bugs me too, as I can't
see the materials nearly as well when the spheres are squashed.

Hi Andy,
Aha! So they DO know about it. Okay. Though, I hate it when the solution is
"live with it". What you described sounds like exactly what I did on one of my
systems, switch back and forth between Vibrant 640×480 and VGA320x200. But, on
my other system, it renders to RDPADI all the time and I don't remember ever
having switched it and I still get the squashing sometimes.

As Andy said, it's a confirmed bug that squashes the sample spheres after you
render in a non-320×200 res, then switch to lowres, and then switch back.
We've got it on our list of things to deal with in the eventual maintenance
release for r3.

Hi Gary,
Alright, good to know that you're working on it. For now, I'll just try to
avoid the situation.
