#2.9/OVsn fix?
33 messages in this thread
Mike,
What is the ETA of 3.0, sure would like to get the OpalVsn function
happening soon. Or is there an end-user temporary fix I can do with 2.9?
Thanks alot,
Chris—–>on AP
Chris,
I really dont know when 3.0 is going to be done. It could be late Jan
or early Feb. The problem we are faced with right now is making the new
functions easy to use and having a proper interface. THis is the most
difficult problem we have ever faced. Up till now doing things have been
fairly straight forward but the new features of Kinematic or Associated Motion
are very difficult to make easy.
We are sorry about the Opal problem and there is no work around at this
time, we are aware of the problem and will be able to fix it when final release
is effected.
Thanks for your support and we appreciate your patience.
Mike
Mike,
Well, as we Norwegians say "ufda", sure wish I had 3.0 fer xmas. You
boys take care up there in the frozen North and have a happy & warm Xmas.
btw, I grew up in SoDak. Currently in Miami.
Thanks alot,

Chris,
No self respecting Norsk man would live in Florida unless they worked
for Disney, and then he would work only in the frozen part.
Mike
Hey Mike,
Did you ever live in Watseka, Illnois and navigate down
"Lantern Road"?
Plus, I'm keep'n Norsk heritage alive here, got 2 sons
Erik (age 8) and Thor (age 5). And I get regular
transfusions of Lefsa from my mom.(big Grin).
Thanks alot,
Chris—–>on AP
Are you an XMas lefse man? How about lutefisk?? Only my granddad could
toss back those fishies. How 'bouts the flat bread? heh heh
Luv lefse, myself. Geez, then there's rommegrut(sp?) and this other one
with the creamed rice and chunky raspberry syrup poured over it. Yum.
My mom's 60 and still making truckloads of lefse every XMas. We never
worry about our roof, I can tell you! *B^)
I remember hearing a kid say his name was Thor and his brother's name was
Odin. Which makes me wonder, which one came first? (An insight into Norse
mythology)

Vance,
Yah shure, lefse is shoe leather for the gods.
Living in Minnesota I dont have to do anything Norsk it goes with the
territory, cold and snow and snowblowers and four wheel trucks and
Viking boats and big swords and furry hats and tall perfect female type
people, although they all live in LA.
Geez,
Mike
Up here in Canada, we also use lefse as economy model frizbees, show the
natives how it makes a better canoe than tree bark/leather/fiberglass, get
better grip on our roads for our cars, a rolled up lefse makes for better
baseball, our police like them better than their bulletproof vests, and
we've sent oodles of mail to NASA to use lefse instead of their tiles on
the shuttle. Hey! Lefse's cheap to make!
And historians say that Vikings didn't contribute anything to modern
society! Sheeeeesh! *B^)

Vance,
Ya yoo bet, my mom sends me Lefsa about 4 times a year. Flatbread
only for Xmas. I never did acquire a taste for boiled fish with
bones, but the traditional meatballs and lefsa filled the void.
What part of world do you call home?
Thanks alot,
Chris—–>on AP
I'm calling from the Capital City of Edmonton in the Province of Alberta
in glorious country of Canada.
Meatballs… yah, I invited my mom and dad to the annual Sons of Norway
XMas party and mom made swedish meatballs. My heritage is Norwegian/Danish
Canadian. My grandparents came up here by way of the ol' US of A.
I brought up a gorgeous (blonde-haired/blue-eyed) girl from Poland and
married her. Been married now for 3 years, so I'm still a pup. These
people are great! VERY interesting history, too! Gonna have a real mixed
up kid though! *B^)
Where're you hailing from? Oh, and Santa says, "Hi!".

Well, you can tell Santa "Hello" from my youngest son "Thor", age 5.He has
been busy hanging lites outside at nite, so Santa will be sure not to miss
him all the way down here in Miami,Fl.
My great, grandparents homesteaded in SoDak, my mom's house is on that same
farm.
Been down here for 14 yrs, fell in love with an old '26 movie house, that
now does everything from ballet, symphony to Lori Anderson, and Sting.
Have my Amiga down at the theatre to do Midi productions, sound efx. Hope
to get some of the Richmond sftwr in the near future and work on some
laser production.
Well, time to finish my brewsky and catch a few ZZZ's.
Thanks alot,

Santa says he'll be there and hopes to see a letter from little Thor
either this or next Christmas. I don't know if you knew this, but if he
writes, he really does get a letter in reply. Northern Canada gets mail
from around the world and the kids' get replies from Santa in the language
they used in their own letters.
Your boy can address it to : Santa Claus
The North Pole
Canada
If he sends the letter on monday, it may get to him before he starts on
his trip.
Just remember, I'm not kidding. He will get a reply and it will be from
the North of Canada. *B^)

I think this is a great thing. Not highly publicized info, tho. Probably
some conspiracy of "trolls" to suppress the existence of Santa.

What? I thought they were called metaballs (or blobs in some raytracers). Hey
Mike, when will Imagine do metaballs? 🙂

Methinks Odin came first since he is refferred to as the "All Father"
Yah, but Odin didn't count on all of these silly humans naming kids after
him, did he?! *B^D

Mike,
There were some Halvorson's that lived there, thought you might
have been of that clan.
From the looks of Vance's post, we'll have to start a
Norsk forum (G).
Thanks alot,

Chris, Mike, & Vance,
Paul Skeel Gerhardt here. My relatives in Denmark tell us that we are
direct descendents of "Goram (sp ?) The Old", a big time Viking dude
around the year 300. You may all get off your knees now 😉 he he he!

I have nothing against new features but I thought I'd tell you that the
BUGS from 2.0 are still in 2.9. I know you guys are adding ALOT of
features but I didn't want you guys to forget about the bugs so these get
fixed before 3.0.
<<< Tony D. Tracer >>>
(Any render time >0 needs acceleration.)
Tony,
We are aware of the bugs and with the help of the users we have found
others that we were not aware of. I should state that our goal is to make
great software that is as bug free as possible. I know that sounds like a cop
out but I have yet to find a software product that was or is bugless.
This is a two way street, we are always looking for better ways to make
Imagine a great product, the most important ingredient is You and we look
forward to a continued relationship with our user base, this is as much your
software as it is ours.
When we started as a company we decided that as users we would continue
to listen, and we still are users who listen and then do the best we can to
create a great product.
Mike
Hi Mike,
i have 2.0 and a 3000-040' by pp&s, and a retina. is there any support
for it (retina) in 2.9 or will there be in 3.0 ?? I use 2.0 w/ retinaEMU
and have no problem, except that the screen is still 640×400 and when i
display in Imagine it dithers in 16 colors or what ever Imagine usually
does. i really like it, and its usability. is 2.9's texture format
different than 3.0's will be?

Mat,
Here is the deal with the Retina Board. We have one of the early
boards and it seems that there is a different version than what we have.
Although there are a few of these boards around we have not gotten a rush of
requests to deal with this hardware yet.
I think also there are some other features that Imagine should deal
with that we just dont have time to deal with this at this time.
So the answer is, no direct support in 3.0 and we will look at the
board with more purpose for 3.1.
Mike

How about the Picasso II boards, Mike? Are you supporting the normal
screen modes through the OS with the new version?

Steve,
The interface runs at 640 by 400 or 480 on the PC. Any bigger at the
moment and the time for redraw would be absurd. Next year we will look into
this whole mess and see if we can work something out.

Actually, I'm referring to the Picasso II 24 bit video card for the
Amiga. I've found a textfile that explains how to change the size of
the screen that Imagine initially opens which lets me use 800×600,
1024×768 or whatever I care to zap in there, but it would be nice if the
new version used the 2.x/3.x screen modes from the OS this time. 🙂

Steve,
One caution, I dont know what this board does, but if the software gets
confused your project will most likely go bye bye. As for the interface it
will remian at 640 by 400 for the time being. I realize that the computer is
capable of more we just arent smart enough to keep the speed up for rendering
and redraw. However once again we will work on it, promise.

Thanks Mike. Actually, it's working great for the most part since
hacking the screen size.
