#Bad color transitions

I rendered a glass on a plane that had no textures or brushes applied to it. The problem was that the plane had very distinct color banding – that is the transitions between each color were very visible. This makes the rendering look poor. I used 640X480, 24-bit TGA, auto-dither, firecracker-24 (default settings). I also tried to upload the image, but it was reported that ther was no room to do so. Thank you, Brad Block 72723,2271

Brad, TGA might be a bit broke, try doing the same in Tif format, also I have noticed that I must use a 24 bit paint program to view the image, when Imagine displays 24 bit files it does not know if you board can do that or not. So try looking at the image in a true 24 bit paint program. Mike

Mike, I used both Tif and TGA file formats (P.S. will 3.0 support tif and tga compression?) and also all combinations of options (auto dither, etc.). Also, I display the image in both Imagine and in PSP (Paint Shop Pro) and sometimes Corel PhotoPaint. I am somewhat dissapointed by this rendering. Is it just me or will the raytracing be improved (POV, Vivid, and 3DS are the standards I'm thinking of)? Thank you, Brad Block 72723,2271

Brad, I look at what I render and my eyes giggle, it looks great. Make sure that you are running a vesa driver if you are using a DOS program to show these things. I look at the 24 bit images under windows in Photoshop 2.5 I dont even have a 24 bit card I have a Vesa card from GVP and they are great to look at. I think its maybe the setup that you have, tell me about your hardware ie. Display card and if you use windows and all that stuff. Mike
