Hi Dale,
Just a quick note here, because you may want to tuck this in the back of your
mind for a future project. (I can understand that there probably isn't enough
users to justify all the development work in the world <grin>…)
But, the HP Logical Volume Manager comes standard with HPUX 9.0 operating
software. A slick piece of work if you ask me, and it probably has some
advantages over AFS. To be short, the convenient thing about the LVM is that it
permits the user (or systems administrator/analyst/engineer) to place any
filesystem across more than one physical disk that resides on one given
machine. (Not to be confused with exporting a filesystem to a disk on another
machine.)
I'm impressed with the LVM. But, then again, I'm used to working in large
environments.

I've had, and used the ability of Pyrimid's OSx to place a filesystem
across multiple physical disks (or pieces of disks if I wish) for years.
LVM is nothing new in the UNIX world; although, it may be new to HP's
version of UNIX.

Thanks for the comment. Uhmmm… I'm not familiar with Pyrimid's OSx at all.
Is this available for the Amiga?

Dave,
No, OSx is Pyramid's port of UNIX, it is a dual universe UNIX, that
is…it contains both BSD and SVR3 code, it defaults to a selected universe but
users can change which universe they work in on the fly.
It's proprietary to Pyramid. Pyramid makes RISC based mini's and
super-mini's

Hi Don,
Just one more note here… I didn't mean to imply that HP was the first to
come up with a version of a Logical Volume Manager. I've also seen the one for
the AT&T (NCR) SVR4. (Complete with the GUI for it. I'm thinking that it is
likely that Vic has seen it for some strange reason.) It's just a matter of my
own personal preference that I prefer the HP flavor.
– My point there was that I haven't seen anything like it for the Amiga, and
I thought perhaps some Amiga development wizard might want to bring it into
this world.
