#A1200 IDE interface

Does anyone know if there is a cable available to connect the Amiga
A1200 IDE header (44-pin, 2.5") to a standard PC type IDE drive
(40-pin, 3.5")? (Preferably from a UK supplier.) Also, is the power
taken from the extra 4 pins, or from the floppy disk drive? If a
cable is not available off the shelf, does anyone know the best way
of making one? Since I had a couple of IDE drives already, I thought
i'd save some money by using them, but now I can't get the thing
connected. |-<
In the German Amiga Magazin issue 6/93 page 168-169 there is an
description how to build in an 3.5 " IDE drive. I can send you the
two pages via FAX. But keep in mind that you will loose your
guarantee. I can give you some addresses from German suppliers if you
wish.
Dave Cininge of Elite Micro Computers sells what you are asking for

doesn't use the amiga forums so you must use Email.

I'm glad to hear that he is still around. I tried several times via his
answering machine and fax to order one of his cards. He never bothered to
respond. IF they are still available, I hope he supports them better than this
would indicate.
BTW this was about 60-90 days ago.

I left him email a couple of weeks ago re. some ram problems on a
bridgeboard I purchased from him. It took 2-3 days before I got a return
reciept and another 2 days before he posted back to me, so it appears he
checks his mailbox every couple of days. He seemed glad to accept my
board back to check it out. I always liked Dave, although his arrogance
caused him to rub some people way.

Well, I'm glad that he is still in business. I was very frustrated a few months
back when he wouldn't respond to phone or fax messages..especially when I was
anxious to buy one of his boards. It is similar to my current frustration with
MacroSystemsUS which is the distributor of Retina and VLab. They have yet to
respond to phone messages or my latest request for faxed info about the Y/C
unit and its availability. Do they think I am impressed with their service?

I don't know of anyplace to get a premanufactured 2.5" to 3.5" IDE
cable. I made my own homebrew job that has worked fine for the last six
months.
Pins 1-40 are defined as being the same on the 3.5" drive connector and
the 2.5" connector. The four extras are, if I recall correctly, GND, +5V
motor, +5V logic and reserved.
As described to me whe I brought it up a few months back, the problems
are CABLE, SPACE, and POWER.
The drive needs to be mighty low-profile to fit.
Compared to the 2.5" drives, the 3.5" units suck power like it's going
out of style.
I have a set of text files which I posted on the Amiga FIDO areas on
how I did the installation.
I could CIS-mail them to you, or if there is any real interest, I could
just upload them.
