#IOmega Floptical Drive
9 messages in this thread
Hi there …
I just bought a Iomega Floptical Floppy drive (the one where you can put 20
Megs on a single 3.5" Floppy).
But now i have to realize that it refuses to work on my Amiga2000 (Kick 2.04
WB 2.1) with a GOLEM SCSI adapter.(I tried it with NEXUS too.. No help there).
The funny thing is, that the drive does not work like a Harddrive.. I am able
to mount it like a Floppy drive with crossdoss.filesystem and i'm able to read
PC floppys, but i CAN'T write to the floppy.
Does anybody now a solution ?? A supplier where i can get drivers for the drive
?
Thanks very much from Germany, Axel
Hi,
I have the same drive hooked up to a 4000 with fastlane and it works fine. I
didn't even have to create a mountlist entry for it. You will need to
HDToolbox each of the floptical floppies.

Hi Alan
Thanks but HDToolbox won`t work (get error Msg 29 !!!)
See ya Axel from Germany
There is a little program called INSITE.LHA which write enables Floptical
drives that are from the IBM world. You just have to run it at startup time to
make the drive work (it resets some of the drive's parameters). Other Amiga
versions of the Floptical drive have a different ROM that has the correct SCSI
parameters for the Amiga as initial values.
I thought someone said they would upload it here, but if it isn't available, I
can upload it.

Hi Alex !!
I would apreciate it very much if you could upload it for me…
Another thing, what kind of software do you use to acess Compuserve ?? I`m
still working with a Terminal proggy.
Thanks Axel from Hamburg Germany

Oops, I can't find the Insite Floptical drive fixing software, must have
deleted it (I have a drive with the DMI ROM so it starts up in the correct
mode). Paul Wright (see message 125576) said he will be uploading it here. If
it doesn't show up in a few days, let me know and I'll try and find it again on
our local BBSs.

I'm using a terminal program; Terminus. If you want a nice user interface to
CompuServe, there's probably a message area or two that discusses ones which
are available. You could also ask for comments from people who advertise in
their signature line that they use one.

I'm the one who said I would upload it and have failed to do so. I guess I
will give it a shot and if you have already uploaded it then CIS should reject
it.
Axel, you are experiencing the exact problems I had (in AmigaDOS, I haven't
tried it under CrossDOS yet) and insite.lha is the solution. It unlocks the
firmware write protection. Why is it firmware write protected? Darned if I
know!

Hi there …
Thanks very much !!! It worked !!!!!
My Drive is runnig …
And to my surprise it's very fast…..
Did anyone ever try to work with regular Floppys (880K) or HD Floppy…
How does it work ???
Thanks very much

What hard drive prep software do you use with your Golem card? You must
use that software with the floptical to format the diskettes before
initial use. You format them as removeable SCSI hard drives. If the
adapter doesn't support autodiskchange, you must thereafter use the
Diskchange command in AmigaDOS whenever you insert a disk in the floptical
drive.
