What is .SEA & is there an Amiga version?

.SEA stands for Self Extracting Archive…I've seen it on Mac
files…Don't know if there is an Amiga equivalent, though I do seem to
remember a program that could make files of that type. Anyone else know?

Yeah there is a program called LhaSFX which can convert standard Lha files
into self extracting arcives. Works great as well.

It's certainly there – it's under the file name LHASFX.RUN upload date was
10th Dec.
Have another look and let me know (it should be in AmigaUser).

Mel,
check the libs again. I've got it listed here, LHASFX.RUN, Lib 16,
AmigaUser. Probably just cleared before I did my new catalog.

What I really wanted to know was how can I use a .SEA file from the DTP
forum. It has the clip art I need. I have ever OTHER cruncher/uncruncher
in the world!

Since a .SEA file has the unpacking program included within it must be run
(or in the mac world "launched") like any other program. So you need to
either use AMAX, EMPLANT, or god-forbid a real macintosh computer to do
it. <G>
Its similar to LHA138.RUN. It self-extracts and can't be extracted on a
MAC using LHA.
What is the forum/lib/filename? Maybe I could d'l it repack it and send it
on over?

To the rescue again <G>. I was going to ask you to do just that & then I
went to library & found 2 of the fattest, sillest Raphael (The Sistine
Madonna) cherubs you have ever seen. Scanned then in & made an EPS file.
They printed out beautifully & my friends Christmas is saved.

It is probably a Mac or Clone file. I think you would have to run it from
one of those platforms to get at the contents.

A file with the .SEA extension is a Mac Self Extracting Archive.
Unfortunately you will need either a Mac, or one of the Mac emulators in
order to unpack the archive.

LHArc will generate self-extracting archives. Typically they're named
somethink like filename.run
I check the summary of my LHA, and it wasn't there. Perhaps, it is
the registered version of LhA you are referring to??

I guess I thought that if you create an archive with the .RUN extension
that it will be self-extracting. After a quick test, though, I see you
must be right. My evaluation version won't do it.

Lha does not produce self-extracting archives (with suffix .RUN). For
this you may use Lhasfx (capitalization unimportant), which I believe is
available here in one of the amiga libraries. If, in fact, it is not in
one of the libraries, let me know and I'll upload it.

I was rather certain of that since I have already downloaded it but I

As the others have said, it's an executable self-extracting archive which you
can't execute on an Amiga. However, some sea files, depending on the
compression used, can be extraced on an amiga by just using the corresponding
extraction program. For example, some clip art I bought was in a self
extracting zip from a pc. I just used unzip and it ignored the self extracting
stuff and extracted the rest just fine. Give it a try, it may work. If it's
from a Mac, it's probably a SIT file. If it's from a PC, it's probably a ZIP
file.

I just tried with unsit (it's a MAC file), no go. It says <disk doubler
self extracter> when I click on it in DiskMaster. Pretty dumb to use non
platform crossing software on CI$.

What is the name of the SEA file you are trying to use, and where is it
located?
It's in the DTPforun, lib 2, DECORA.SEA. As I told Chris, I found a
hilarious set of Raphael cherubs in an art book & scanned them in
with my Epson300C. For a change got great (3.7 meg!) EPS file.
Scanning is another art (computer) form to learn.
Scanning old photos & printing on my HP4m is great…Kinko's xeroxing
is the pits <G>. Can't afford a real printer for 32 family calendars.

Funny you should mention Kinko's… the ones around here all have
fantastic DTP equipment and they'll do several different types of
calendars for a very reasonable (I huess that's pretty subjective,
huh?) price.
MY calendar had old family pictures..some from Russia circa 1910, & I
made the the calendar template, with family birthdays etc, plus the
Jewish Holidays with funny "Catskills'" font. Not Kinko's ready made
number, which by the way are about $30 a piece. Even factoring in the
the binding equipment (which I needed), I come out way ahead.
They may have great DTP equipment (but then so do I <G>), but they do
rotten copy work. I have looked all over for a place that has a Canon
B & W laser copier, which is supposed to do the best graphics work.
But except for my cousin, the famous Art Editor, they'll all love it.

I thought you counted the libs from the top regardless. So the count is
only the working ones? It's a cute clip, I see quite a few have DLed it.

Well, actually you do count the libraries from the top, but you start with
0, which is the sysop library. Hey, we gotta read too.
OH $&*%, I forgot!! I usually count correctly. Mea culpa, mea culpa…MEA
