#Viper VLB & NT 3.5
5 messages in this thread
I am setting up NT 3.5 with my viper vlb card. I cannot set any other
resolution than 640×480. Whenever I try another resolution I get to the test
portion for the Weitek 9000 card and the screen goes black. then the system
locks up I am forced to reboot to bring up the NT again.
Any ideas on what I can try to fix this problem? The older drivers for NT 3.1
work fine, but just not the ones that ship with NT.
You and I have a very similar problem. I also have upgraded to NT 3.5 from
3.1. I can't get the drivers for 3.1 to work with 3.5. I've down loaded the
upgrade drivers for viper from Diamonds BBS. NT 3.5 won't accept/recognize
this upgrade either. A dialogue box opens stating the software is a "…down
level." I've gotten it to prompt for a reboot only to discover that after the
reboot it didn't hold the resolution option that I had selected. I notice you
indicate that your screen goes black. I couldn't locate the WEITECKP9.SYS
files on the NT 3.5 cd. Does your driver card option show the VIPER VLB
selection? Are you prompted for a driver drive? This is where I am unable to
direct it to the correct drive where the WEITECKP9.SYS resides. I've put out
some request for assistance in the WUGNET and MS WINDOW forms. I recieved a
responce in WUGNET. He doesn't believe the VIPER drivers were provided with
this release but is lead to believe that they are going to be released with the
first "maintenance release."
I can get 800 X 600 if I select VGA during startup.
If you discover anything more elsewhere please keep me posted.
Bill and Bob,
I think that you fellows need the E revision Vipers that use 3.13 BIOS. You can
arrange for an exchange of the Viper by getting an RMA# from DCS at
408-736-2000 and pressing 7 for tech support.

Bruce,
Are you saying that the rev A4 Vipers which currently should use a rev 1.14
BIOS are not going to be
supported on Win NT 3.5? If so why doesn't Diamond or Microsoft make a public
statement saying so?
I would like to know a technical reason why the rev A4 Vipers can't be made
to work with Win NT 3.5
when they worked just fine with Win NT 3.1 using Diamond supplied drivers.
Robert S. White (a Win NT user since Dec 92, Viper VLB user since Feb 93).
I didn't say that at all..I said that the drivers are supplied by MS at this
time..I can't predict what DCS has in store for us in the future, but if their
track record continues, I am sure that newer and faster drivers will be
provided…Too many things going on right know with WARP and NT…
