#256 material limit?
8 messages in this thread
Hi Gary,
Have you been following the threads in Take 5 about the proposed joint
project between forum members to create a 3DS city? StudioCity 2000 is the
common subject heading.
Any words of wisdom for such a project? Any chance of a Temple of Yost
being created? A mutant trauma center?
Is there a 256 material limit per project? This will greatly effect our
ability to merge individual projects into a master project, unless we take the
time beforehand to create/select allowable materials. Repetitive use of maps
would obviously be in order to keep RAM requirements down. Then we seem to
need to rely on more detailed geometry if custom maps are limited. Ouch.

Paul,
I've run into this "material limit" problem myself when trying to merge
several larger files. Frustrating, since my 3DS savvy isn't quite there yet.
If you find an answer, perhaps you could fill me in also.
Thanks, Kev.
Hi Kevin,
Gary just posted that the 256 limit is there for r1-r4, but will be taken
care of for r5.

I've skimmed those threads, but since I'm so busy these days I don't
have time to read them in detail. Words of wisdom? How about "We're
all bozos on this bus"?
Re the 256-material limit in R1-4… Sorry, but that's the gospel.
You are going to have to come up with a 256-material MLI for folks to
use for the project. I promise to take that limit out in R5.

Someone asks you a simple questions and you promise to change the
future of the program! That's what I call dedication!!
Well… I am nothing if not dedicated. <g>

Hi Gary,

ROFL.
Thanks for addressing the material limit in R5.

It's been something that I've been wanting to do for awhile, along
with removing the 64K-face/per object limit.
