Hi James, <<vapor — smoke ring>> here's what you'll need to do. 1) either create a new cube or delete your emmitter points from your existing cube. 2) go into the 2d shaper and create 2 concentric circles, then assign those two shapes and go into the 3d editor 3) CREATE/OBJECT/GET SHAPE to bring the shape into the editor — now you have a set of points in the shape that you want the vapor to emit, a ring 4) rotate the object and scale it into your cube, then attach it to the cube. 5) set up your vapor settings and render away I made a quick one and used parallel emmitters it looks pretty good. i trust this puts you on the right path 🙂 -Kyle

Kyle, PMJI, but I was just reviewing the Siggraph '94 tape and admiring your work in the entertainment section. Very nice work. I'm curious, were the spaceship animations for self-promo or for a particular project?

Martin, <<Very nice work.>> Thank you (GG) <<I'm curious, were the spaceship animations for self-promo or for a particular project? >> It was from a CD-I game I was doing all of the animations for, but when we were almost done, our funding got pulled. so, technically, it doesn't exist. The animation I was doing for the game was looking really good, but CD-I has a lot of restrictions on graphics, so I wanted to put it on video. The stuff you were looking at on the tape was originally planned for 140×65 resolution. <<self promo?>> I'm a student at Ohio State an I had just started taking an animtion class. So when it came to choosing a subject matter for the class project, I didn't have to search very far. I already most of the models and I did 3 minutes of animation in ten weeks, while doing my other freelance graphics work. My Prof. only gave me an A- in the class because I embarassed her a couple times in front of everyone. 🙂 So, I guess it was from a project to a self promo piece that I got graded on. 😮 -Kyle

Kyle, >> CD-I game…. our funding got pulled. << what a bummer 🙁 But at least you've got a lot of talent and now a portfolio to showcase it with. You should have no difficulty getting all the game work you want – if that's what you want.

Martin, <<what a bummer>> yup I'm really looking to get out of games though, I've worked on about ten titles already (Terminator 2029, Terminator Rampage, Gretzky Hockey 3, WireHead Virtual Media Galerie, to name a few) — I'm putting together a new deno reel that I'll be using to apply for summer internships at ILM, PDI, DD etc… -Kyle
