I'll be uploading a file that shows the os/2 dos settings I am using for my foreground and background 3ds sessions. A job that takes about 22 seconds to render under dos takes about 33 seconds in the foreground, and about 24 seconds in the background slave with no activity occurring in the foreground session. The major two settings that need to be tweaked are the idle seconds and the idle sensitivity. Incorrect adjustment of these can make it appear the the background session is not running at all. I show in the file the foreground and background render times for various setting. Also included in the .zip file is a copy of my current config.sys for reference. The file name will be 3dsos2.zip.

Hi, *** A job that takes about 22 seconds to render under dos takes about 33 seconds in the foreground, and about 24 seconds in the background slave *** Hmm… I have been reading the threads Re: OS2 and 3DS and was just about ready to move in that direction untill I read this! I dont know about you but for me an increase of 11 secs per frame is crippling! For a 30 sec (900 frame) anim that translates to 2 hrs and 45 mins of additional machine time! Wow! And I doubt that your numbers reflect what could happen when multiple images paths are added to a projects needs. Have you found OS2 to increase times for all your renderings? Just curious. If anyone else is following this thread and has OS2 running with better render benchmarks please let me know. Just my 2 cents. Digger

Well, I've just about given up on background rendering under os/2. Just can't find a good set of settings which gives both good foreground rendering speed and reasonable background rendering speed. The times I gave in my last message was with 2 sessions of 3ds running. On CHEVY.3DS, rendering under dos takes 236 seconds. Running a single 3ds session in the foreground, render time is 259 seconds, about a 10% increase. LAM
