#DTV How Profitable?
2 messages in this thread
Hello,
It is good to see a new forum dealing with DTV.
Actually I'm not involved with DTV, but am very interested in it's obvious
potential.
We have been looking to expand into new exciting areas of computer multimedia
and DTV – but as yet we have been unable to identify the market/concept with
greatest profit potential / (low start ups)!
Anybody have any suggestion on business ventures using DTV?
I am based here in the UK.
Any ideas or comments appreciated!
Chris
Hi Chris,
re: "…I'm not involved with DTV … We have been looking to expand…"
So what do you do now, write actuarial software for insurance companies?
🙂
There is a lot of potential, as I see it, for the DeskTop Video Producer.
Wether you are more into the "desktop" side of it, Morphing, Warping,
Image Processing, 2D-3D modeling and Animation, Rendering, or, the "video"
side of it Documentaries, Infomercials, SitComs, Features, Commercials,
Training & Event VideoGraphy, or, the "audio" side of it, Music Videos,
Soundtracks, Narration, Effects, Surround Sound & Home Theatre, Closed
Captioning, etc…. I see lots of potential.
One of my latest cool, million dollar making, ideas is to set up a
rendering farm of Windows NT based MIPS/ALPHA/PENTIUM machines running
software that would allow folks using packages like Lightwave 3D, Crystal
Topas, AutoDesk 3D Studio, World Construction Set, Imagine, Morph Plus,
Elastic Reality, or any other packages that are typically used to create
multi-second animations and take a loooong time doing every 30th of a
second, so that folks could use their modems to upload their "scenes"
along with any other unique "textures", "objects", etc., and have my farm
render it much faster than they could possibly do it otherwise.
I think that something like this may open up new markets for 3D/high level
render and animation markets, where like a news department at the local
television station could create unique 3D animations depicting news
stories on a daily basis, just like they do now with their 2-dimensional
pictures now. Software is getting about easy enough and powerful enough
now to set up a decent scene in a couple of hours, but the rendering times
are just prohibitive in a lot of cases. Therefore, if this "pay-on-usage"
rendering farm could take that burden away, I think that it would be a
valuable resource for the DTV community.
Anyway, those are some of my ideas, I think someone else will probably
pipe up with others. Good to see you here, Chris!
