#Running a BBS w/ A2000

Hi, Thanks for your information. I have the same questions for you: What do
you think is the best BBS program available? What type of Serial cards are
there? Do you know anything about the FidoNet?
What makes a BBS to be considered good by the users? 🙂

I'm not sure if it's the best but I like CNET. I'm also using the Multiface
serial card, and I don't know much about FidoNet 🙁 IMHO a good BBS doesn't
get in your face with alot of text screens and voting booths, etc.. My BBSers
like to go to the message bases to get/receive help and the libraries for files
not much else (eg. playing online games). Also, never sit by your BBS computer
and open a chat line with everyone who logs on. That's the pits when you're
using a BBS. If they want to talk to you they'll ask for a chat. Hope that

The more Amiga BBS's around, the better off we all are. My own BBS had to
recently go down because I am moving shortly. My BBS: Nebula was running on a
2000 in stock configuration with one line
. a Zoom 14.4 modem and Excelsior software. Prior to Excelsior!, I used 4D-BBS
and played with Cnet. Excelsior! Would be my reccomend -or the novice Sysop due
to it's easy set up and built in FIDO. There is a Demo programm in the
Libraries. Good luck with your BBS!
It should be mentioned however, that instead of spending alot of money and
time with the hardware, you might want to predesign how you want your system to
be, right down to it's personality and features offered.. ..and advertising**
There are alot of systems out there but if you try to do too much straight off,
you'll be setting your self up for alot of wasted hours and frustration. If I

Thank you for your advice. I'll take a look at the demo of Excelsior.
I know I have to start the BBS off small.. only one line, etc. But it would be
nice to have something that attracted users. I have been thinking of setting
up just a chat (CB style) type of BBS. Then I'd need quite a few lines (3 at
least to start), and hope that people want to spend time chatting with others.

I would highly reccomend E! for a chat BBS. It has a built in CB implimented
already and is very easy to configure. In fact, I was and still will set up a
multinode chat BBS in the future. Most chat boards have around 8 linesto start
off with [D [D
The 2000 is a good choice for what you want, my own plans include getting a
GVP 040 card for my 2000 and a Comports 8 to handle all the serial ports. later
