Don't know what happened with the InterFont review. It's funny, Harv
Laser's review of InterChange was originally 4 1/2 stars, while the recap
was 5. (Incidentally, I tried very hard to persuade INFO to find another
reviewer than Laser – I don't want anyone I know personally reviewing our
products. I know when I see some company's buddy reviewing a product, I
take the review with a grain of salt.) Also, I was dismayed to find out
that the 1/3 page paragraph on InterFont is all that INFO was planning as a
review. Amazing. They run a full-page preview of Design 3D, which isn't
scheduled for release til late February, early March. I guess we don't buy
enough ads, or something. 🙂
John – Just to let you know, Laser did the TSilver review for INFO, and we
too were a bit miffed. Not at Harv, but at the Magazine. He originally
submitted a 4 page review (the size they initially asked for) and INFO
edited it down to a single page, and changed it enough to give the reader
the impression that Turbo SIlver can't even do animation! Needless to say
we called INFO and raked them over the coals a bit.
Stan, the "quicky" reviews in INFO should do more to help sales of Turbo
Silver then any of the other packages. Heck, who is going to dish out $500
for Sculpt-Animate 4D? And after seeing the results of VideoScape 3D on
the file they used (Barf City), who in their right mind wouldbuy it?
I really liked that picture of ArchTrace in there. Do I use TS, you ask.
Errr, no, not yet. But I do plan on buying it in the next few months. I
have Ben Blish's AVT coming and will first try QRT to make up an ID frame
for sending Via SSTV, but I know it will be much easier with TS. (Also
saving up for an A2620!)
Laser also saw fit to add to his half-page InterChange review, that there
were "hundreds" of PD 3D objects on PLink, so there was no reason to buy
our Syndesis object disk. Of course, most of the objects on our disk did
come from contacts we made on the networks…
Can Turbo Silver do animation? 🙂
Sounds like the whole issue was a bust. I do have to give Harv credit
though, he did call if he had a problem, and when he wanted to verify some
operation or feature, instead writing wrong info. The only other reviewer
to bother to do that was Sheldon. He has always seemed like a straight up
guy, so it'll be interesting to see how the AW review comes out. Mabey you
should convert the Syndesis objects into TS 3.0 only format to boost sales
<large snicker!>. . BTW How did you and H. like Epcot? It was my first
trip to Orlando and it was Wonderful! I'm ready for another forum …. say
next week?
EPCOT was wonderful, Disneyland for restaurant-crazy adults. The weather
was perfect. We really needed the vacation. The only hassle of the show
was that I left a two meg board in the A2000 we borrowed from Creative
Computers, and they haven't found it yet. Sheesh. It's driving me up a
wall, my development environment is stymied without it. I wish they'd
hurry up…
You're right about putting out objects in Silver format. We're working on
new packaging for all our products, and that would boost sales, too. We're
selling a lot of TS modules, and I'm hard at work on the TS 3.0 module.
It's coming along well.
Good lots of folks seem to want it. BTW I called H. today to order some
more packages, but only got the machine. I left a message, but if you talk
to her, please make sure she sends me out another 10 sets.
I'll remind her. How can we convince you to carry InterFont, too? I think
it will sell well for you. Perhaps we could bundle it with the disk of
demo pictures that we've prepared – basically, the same images that I've
uploaded here, and the one disk we gave you at the show.

AmiFORUM – Florida was a terrific show with 2,156 attending over the two days.
We look forward to a greatly expanded AmiFORUM next year, but at this time
there are no plans to hold a fourth AmiEXPO.

I *DO* have one stupid question to ask, tho, but I'll ring you up,
rather than embarrass myself out here in public.
I tell ya, we did the smart thing with InterFont… one of the prime rules
for making a popular product, is to make something that journalists will
use. InterFont makes flashy pictures from these 3D programs an easy task,
and it can be a great boon to creative layout with Professional Page. We
just got (half) the front cover of Amiga Sentry, in a glowing six-page
review. Harriet was reading it to me over the phone, and I repeated a quote
that Stan made at the Florida show… "He understands!" Stan made that
remark when I showed him those pictures I gave you at the show, the ones
that can be found in the library here, by James Shook. InterFont can do a
lot!

Steve Pietrowicz is online here… his PPn is 73047,2313. Ask him, I don't
know how he did it, either. Lamps behind don't do it? I thought photographers
did well with these raytrace packages. 🙂
I was able to get that effect with a number of lamps behind the letters, as
well as a number of well placed dimmer lights in front of the letters. It
took quite a while to get just right, because I wasn't sure what I was
doing. 🙂 Glad you liked it.
I LOVED it! If John doesn't mind, would you send or upload the object,
so I can SEE how you did it? I'll trade you my Interfont, which is traced
from the Roman font Century. I'm probly going to put it in the PD after a
bit more tidying up.
Oh, oh….you're not going to like this….I don't have that Turbo Silver
scene anymore. Like I said, tho, you shouldn't have too much of a
problem recreating the scene. Use one or two bright lamps (I think I used
the default 300) and spread three or four dim lamps (brightness of between
50 and 100) in the front of the letters. Basically, it takes a bit of
fiddling. Make good use of the Set Zone option to see how certain parts of
the scene are turning out too.
Jay, send the Century InterFont to me first, to examine it, we might want to
*pay* you for it. (Notice to the audience: journalists would rather do
anything for money…)
