The mic is analog so it wont work in the digital port. Next to the digital ports is the optical in/stereo in port. I run my mic into a mixer (Makie micro series 1202- inexpensive but solid ) and modulate the gain for the best signal then out to the stereo in port. The guys at Sound Advice in Santa Barbara, who were very helpful, sain an unmodulated (if thats the word) signal from the mic or for that matter from the K2000 to the VTR is not the way to go so a mixer is useful. Since the mic is mono the sample is on the left channel. After recording the sample the gain can be increased if necessary by editing the sample. I do a lot of looping of samples, like running water, to save RAM. Do you have sequencing software? I use Passport's Pro4 to arrange up to 16 channels of music sounds and dialog. Its easy to ramp the volume or otherwise edit the channels in the sequencing program. BTW dialog can be sampled at 29.4 KHz rather than 44 with no noticable change in quality to save RAM. I like midi because it saves disk space. The only limitation I can see would be for long sections of dialog which would have to be taped and then mixed with the midi for output to the VTR.
