#3D Paint Programs
8 messages in this thread
Hey all,
I was wondering if there are any 3d paint programs for 3DS. I have seen the
use of these in the latest issues of CGW and DVM and it looks great.
What a great idea for a sixth module of 3ds!!<g>.

Andrew:
Mark Zimmer of Fractal Design demo'd a 3D-paint package code-named "X3" at
SIGGRAPH that, last I heard, was to be available in the first quarter of '95.
I personally think that's probably optimistic. Mr. Zimmer is SUPPOSED to be
holding a conference in the Painter section of GRUGPA sometime in December,
though I haven't heard anything about it in a while, so THAT may not happen
until at least January. Some time ago, when Zimmer first announced that they
were working on such a thing, he had specifically mentioned 3DS, and I
suggested that he contact Gary Yost, and gave him Gary's ID. Mark said that
was a good idea and that he would, but I don't know any more. I'm e-mailing
you a copy of the info that MZ had discussed in a thread on X3.

Dave,
Thanks for sending me the info. Did you happen to see the demo? From what
I've read, that even on a SGI, the 3D painting is a slow process. Do you think
it would be workable on a PC, or would it be painfully slow?
>> last I heard, was to be available in the first quarter of '95
I've heard that before. <g>
Andrew
No, I missed SIGGRAPH, but Bob (ROBERT RITGER 75050,2255) talked to Zimmer at
SIG, so you might ask him.
I'll try and get that email to you today.

Hi Andrew,
<< the 3D painting is a slow process. Do you think it would be workable on a

The state of 3D Painting..I believe the current issue of CGW covers this in
depth. Note Glenn's Displaced monk head on the cover.. 🙂

Sorry, I don't see it anywhere on or in the current issue (Dec, 94).
???

Hi David,

I'm sorry… I was shown the cover and misinformed. You are correct, the image
was created by Marcel Achard. I was easily fooled since the mesh is very
similar to the displaced head in the libs..

Very true.
