Evening, Doug,
After a week during which: a bulldozer managed to push the local telephone
lines against high voltage lines, blowing my trusty old 2400 modem; the
replacement 14400 Boca took a lot of heavy breathing to work into my system; I
was trying to move our factory; etc., I was catching up on forum gossip at
about 8 or 9 pm central US time when a "new screen" popped up in the middle of
my browsing, with a "Hi, Chris". This sort of exploded into my daydreaming,
heart-attack wise. I have never used a chat mode before; with a very sticky
keyboard and bifocals, it's tough. So I made a few inane comments and logged
off. On the other end there was a Sysop, but I did not get his name in the
panic.
Just wanted to pass on my apologies – I'm not normally that rude – and say
thanks for the greeting to whoever it was.

Hi, Chris–
I do not know who that might have been; hopefully the person will see your
message. Aside from scheduled conferences, I am always whizzing through in an
automated visit using OzCIS. If I get a chat attempt, it gets embedded in one
of the messages downloaded from the board, and I find it too late to answer.
Since you may be paying a lot for phone charges in using CIS, you might want to
look into using one of the fully-automated "navigator" programs like OzCIS or
TAPCIS; they can cut your on-line time dramatically by removing all the
operator hesitation time. It takes a bit of doing to set them up, and
familiarity with the concepts of message boards and CIS in general, which is
why I do not recommend them for novice CIS users.

This is the 2nd time you have advised me to use a navigator. You are dead right
on the (Mexican) tel. bills. They are the stuff that divorces are made of! I am
going to take your advice.
Have you a suggestion on a navigator for OS/2 ? (although I get along well with
CIM in a Dos window under OS/2).

Goden CommPass – use it myself. GO GCPSUPPORT gets you there.

but had not seen any user comment.

It's pretty good – like I said, check out the GCPSUPPORT forum for more
information. I think GCP makes life much easier than CIM or Tapcis, and they
have a demo version available. (Full featured, but you can only use it on
forums that begin with GCP or OS2, I think) You can pick up a retail copy at
CompUSA, I know.
