Hi Tom, Rick Needham said to contact you regarding a question I have on the "Chat" option in the forum. I was creating a message in the Sci/Math Forum & suddenly a window appeared with a 'hello' message from sysop, Tom LeCompte. Problem was, I did'nt know how to respond. I e-mailed him a message about this & he suggested that I contact you or Xah Lee. My software is CIM 2.2.3. (I think). I have engaged in one geology "conference" so am somewhat familiar with those windows for creating a message or answer & seeing it appear on the screen, etc. Thanks in advance & Merry Christmas, Rod

Hmmm…I don't think it was me who sent you a "hello". I usually fly through this forum on autopilot, so I'm not really able to send these real-time messages. In fact, I'm usually doing the CIS run on my computer in the background, so it's even harder. In any event, I'm not really a CIM user, and the experts are on the CIM Support Forum. (GO CIMSUPPORT) I did zip by with CIM for OS/2, and there doesn't seem to be an obvious equivalent of the \SEND command – it looks like you have to enter a conference room and then INVITE someone. There's also the TALK command, which might be the same sort of thing as SEND. You could try that. In any event, it's best to use the conference room for anything more than a message or two – if nothing else, that eliminates the annoying beeps every time a message is sent. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I hope this at least gets you pointed in the right direction.

Hi Tom, I was in the same situation – got beeped out of daydreaming thru the threads see " The other Sysop :-)" thread; I could not work out how to indicate "end of my message" or how to bow out graciously. My good book on Compuserve has gone astray in our factory move and I really need to do my homework and get my adrenalin to the right level before hammering out chat on-line. The Mexican peso has just dropped against the dollar like good old native lead and I think I shall be limiting my visits to autopilot as soon as I can get my hands on a copy of Golden Compass. The rebels in Chiapas State have got a lot to answer for. I have just visited the GCPsupport forum and it does seem very purposeful and to the point – no waffling. Chris

Hi Tom, Thanks for the info. Let me clarify a boo-boo I made. I said that "I was creating a message in the Sci/Math Forum and suddenly a window appeared with a 'hello' message from sysop, (you)" where I should have said, Rick Needham. Rod
