L.S. Who has any experience or knows 'on the shelve' products that provide live video in a LAN in combination with DOS/WINDOWS and ipx/spx. ? Thanks in advance. Bart 🙂

Bart, I would figure that if you standardize on a file format, like .avi, and if you equip the various machines on the network with .avi players, either software or hardware based, and have a //.avi directory on the network, you should have a pretty decent solution, no? Welcome to the forum, Bart! -John

I am a corporate producer who has looked at this problem before. We wanted to pass live video on the lan as part of an employee communications effort. We found the real problem was not in the "on-desk" hardware, the computer, but in the transmission system, the lan. Live video requires a larger "backbone" than most currents systems have. It will be here eventually but right now the technology is still lacking in most cases. If you are dealing with a small system, I have heard of a product that will allow transmission on twisted pair instead of coax. Maybe someone else can remember what this product is or where it is available. Good luck in your efforts.
