what do you want to do? Are you a hobbyist or is this for professional usage.
If the latter then go with 3ds because it's just better to begin with IMHO, and
if you need a feature it doesn't support then somebody has probably written a
plug-in to do what you want. Or you can write it yourself with the script tool.
