#Animating Problem

I am new to animating using 3D Studio and I am having a problem with keyframer. It "fills in the blanks" so that animation is always fluid… But because of this, objects are moving before they're supposed to, and even if I move them back, Keyframer moves them again. My particular dilema is a snowman tipping his hat, and the hat starts tipping itself before the arm gets there. My friend says that with him, this isn't happening, but we can't seem to find a difference in our settings. Can anyone help me?

Jonathan, Use the Tension, Continuity & Bias settings to control when your movement starts. Defaults are to make these motions occur in a curve around the point/frame you select. Change as needed to go THROUGH the point. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Kevin's got the answer for you. Check out the description under Tens/Cont/Bias on page 8-36 of the Ref. Manual (specifically the "Important" note and the examples). There's also a demonstration of this in one of the Keyframer tutorials — tho I can't recall which one. – Jack

Jon, I've run into this prob, I hope my answer helps. I think the other answers aren't quite correct. I don't think your prob is tension, etc. For example, let's say you go to frame 10, to start moving your snowman arm. At frame 20, the hat starts to move (if that's what you want). However, when you run your flic, the hat starts to move right away. Is that about right? If that's the case, what needs to be done is to click on "track info", and find "hat", copy the "all tracks" keys for position, etc. for frame 0, and slide them to frame 20. That keeps the hat at that position until frame 20, then will move. Hope I've helped. Kev. If not, give me a call.

Thanks you very much.. That's EXACTLY it. I fixed it another way, however, but it wasn't perfectly fixed. Thanks!

Hi Jonathan, << don't move yet.. >> Kevin and Kevin are both correct and you must take both suggestions into account. You *do* want to copy a track info key for position/rotation/scale etc. if you want to lock it into position. However, you also need to adjust the TCB so it doesn't drift in place. jonas[adesk]

Hi Tyler, I was just goofing off with Jonas. In message 143372 he said he'd be logging in from Lake Tahoe over the holidays. Marcella is a very special lady in his life. We met at SIGGRAPH in Orlando. I was tempted to say his favorite dish is Chick-en Marcella. But…. That's just a word game. Happy New Year! Happy New Life! -k
