Well Steve, maybe I kept it too short. I contacted Micron; they directed me to ASDG (original designers of the memory board) and Progressive Peripherals (who is now handling the repairs). I contacted Perry K., who told me to try a 16Mhz 68000. (If I can try it on a trial basis, this is my next step.) I have two confirmations that the memory board works (on 4.3 and 6.0 motherboards). I have tried a friends ASDG board (the same design) with no better results. (BTW the board hangs the system during autoconfigure). I am currently borrowing a CBM board which works fine. The original flaky boot problem was solved after I replaced the motherboard, but my memory board stopped working. What I find most aggravating (disheartening, frustrating) is that I am hearing from other people similar horror stories about incompatible hardware on 6.X motherboards. regards (but still frustrated) greg

Greg: What I've heard is that SOME of the 68000s in the 6.x run were flaky, and that replacing them fixes the problem. As I said, that's what I heard. I do not know if it is a fact. I do remember seeing some messages here and in some mags (maybe Bug Bytes?) that gave information on how to tell which ones were flaky by the mfgr name and number, but I can't remember what to look for. Maybe a lurker will? Ray Lewis

Ray: I heard the same thing. So I tried a quick test with the 68000 from my 1000. Swapped em and tried it. No change, no better, no worse. I left the 68000s swapped (don't care to do too much swapping of those BIG chips) and the 1000 is still ok (expanded memory and all). Thanks for the idea though. regards greg

So, the motherboard is a 6.0 motherboard? I *think* (maybe someone who knows for sure will pipe in here) the latest rev is 6.3. Have you tried the board with that rev? Steve

Steve: I wish I could, but all I have access to is the 6.2b's (a friend's actually) and 4.3's(another friend's). The folks at Progressive Peripherals are the people that have the 6.0. They told me that they ran the board overnite and ran 43 successful passes of the ASDG memory test. If I can find a 6.3 motherboard I will certainly give it a try. Thanks . regards, greg
