Lowell, I was refered to you in seeking information about geneology programs on the Amiga. I have a friend who is into geneology and just got an Amiga and would like to know what good programs are available. I appreciate any information you could give me to share with my friend. Pat B.

Being relatively new to the area, I am not an expert, but I'll be happy to tell you what I know. I have been looking at genealogy software for the Amiga for a while now, but so far I have not found anything that is outstanding. This is one of those areas where there is more to choose from on Messy-Dos platforms. There are 4 choices that I know about. They are "Norgen", "Your Family Tree", "GENP" (I think), and one that I just saw in the Genealogy forum called "Genealogy on Display" (file name AMYGEN.ARC). I plan on downloading it today to have a look. I bought Norgen last year, but have not done a whole lot with it, for reasons I'll get into later. "Your Family Tree" looked to simplistic when I bought Norgen. GENP is from someone in Australia. It looked to have some good capabilities, but I was a little nervous about support from overseas (nothing against Australia). However, they were VERY quick to send me information when I circled their number on some reader service card. I received it within 3 weeks! There is a file in the "Other Software" library in the genealogy forum which has a brief summary of these 4 programs. It is called AMIGA5.SFT. I would suggest that you download that file and have your friend read it, then get back to me. It might be helpful if you could tell me what the Amiga setup consists of, whether or not your friend has any experience with genealogy, and how involved he wants to get in his record keeping. Then, your friend might have some specific questions, and I'll also tell you about my experiences with Norgen. — Lowell
