#porting questions
5 messages in this thread
I've been toying about with porting some UNIX software to the Amiga. As a
result, I've encountered some UNIX functions which I don't understand. If
any out there know enuf about UNIX to answer, please manifest yourselves to
me: I don't have access to a copy of <sgtty.h> and I believe it defines a
struct called sgttyb, I know that this struct contains fields known as
sg_flags, sg_ispeed, and sg_ospeed. Anyone know the definition of sgttyb?
The following routines are a referenced: wait(0), signal( SIGALRM,func ),
gtty( fd,*sgttyb_instance ), fork(), stty( fd,*sgttyb_instance ), sleep(10),
alarm(1), and finally, kill( pid,9). Does “wait(0)'' mean give up control,
but give control back unconditionally? What kind of alarm does signal setup
and how does it work? I am completely in the dark about gtty and stty. Are
there any pitfalls in sleep(10)? What happens 1 second after alarm(1) is
called? I seem to recall fork() creates a subprocess, and I can imagine
kill(pid,9) removes it. What does the 9 do as a second parameter of kill?
Understanding these routines is necessary for me to craft AmigaDos analogs.
I suppose its the price of a mispent youth in CPM and VMS. Thanx in advance,
sdp
Steve,
I am one of them 'unix folk'(and a developer too). I'll try to get the
structs from work tomorrow(today) and upload some stuff or mail you same about
the unix funcs. Adios, Amigos.
