#A2000 and Oki20 printer

Anybody successful in running the A500/A2000 version of Workbench with a
Okimate 20 printer? It appears that with this version of Workbench on my
A2000, it sends a printer initialization sequence before and after every line
it prints. This drives the Okimate 20 crazy and makes it unusable. The problem
goes away if you boot with the old version (Enhancer) of 1.2. However,
strangely enough, if you copy the old printer.devicthe old Okimate_20 printer
driver on the new workbench disk, the problem still remains. Would appreciate
any help on this since nothing seems to work.

Copy the old printer driver and the old printer.device (from the DEVS
directory) over and see if that makes a difference.

Copying the old printer.device and Okimate_20 device driver has no effect when
booting with the new Workbench. I don't know how they've managed to do this,
but it appears that we have a change of behaviour on how the printer works
outside the realm of the printer device/device driver. Just don't know what
else could be affecting the printer if not the printer device/device driver…
I'm beginning to feel very lucky that I never did get my 2000 wb disk – my Oki
20 printer has worked perfectly on the 2000 with IBM cable I believe. And to
think I was mad at the dealer!

It may have something to do with the pinouts of the parallel port. See
what pin #14 on the Okimate is hooked to. If you're using an IBM parallel
cable…this pin is hooked to pin #14 of the Amiga parallel port which has +5v
on it. IBM printers (and compatibles) use this for AutoLineFeed but your Oki
may use it for something else and that could be your problem.
However, if it works with the A1000 WB and not with the A2000 WB disk,
then that's not the problem…so the only thing left is the file
parallel.device which is called by the printer.device. Try moving that also.
If that doesn't do it…I don't know what else to try.

Don, copying the old parallel.device has no effect either. Like you said, it
would seem that if the cable was the problem, it wouldn't work on the old WB
disk either. But then we have one person who says that if works for him… I'm
confused…
