Great article……did not deal with some of the more major limitations of Silver i.e. lack of "cell" documentation info such as "how many objects" and their names, how many points, etc. , but the traces of the textures were GREAT help! Still playing with marble and wood; they are complicated! Great Article and Great Pics!

Wood and Marble are the easiest…just set a range of spheres up with different settings….you'll get the hang of it…..I don't understand your other comments though….# of objects , points, etc. is controlled by available memory…sure…Silver takes a bit of fussing to get the hang of….but the quality of the results is undeniable……and the quantity of effects unmatched (as of yet)……………………………….Louis

What I meant was a printout (or info feature) that would list the names of all objects and/or groups in a cell, maybe list # of points for each object) Too many times I have a hard time trying to select an object who shares either a name (result of copy) or coordinates for an axis (complex objects). The other wierd thing that gets me is screen redraw; when you select it it redraws for orange but not for blue……and I need an 030 board to speed it up. Definitely need an 030 board (Ive got about 700 saved so far and I am a student so I have till end of march) I sent two .zoo files of tracesto Impulse and asked them to upload them (I cannot seem to upload). They are Piano.zoo and Table.zoo; check em out and let me know what you think! The table has a glass of water and a glass ashtray….its a great trace! (The lamps are light sources with transluscent shades….)

Scott. I couldn't agree more about the need for an INFO command, printout, etc for Silver. I have a macro that just does a SELECT NEXT, then brings up the object attribute requestor over and over just so I can remember all the names. (I know, I know, I should write them down as I go, but when you go back to a file weeks later you never know WHAT you called anything!) (if they had only put in a full ARexx interface, all that could have been avoided) –jp–

What is the macro in? Is it one of the keyboard "units" that gets trapped between CPU and keyboard (like the timesaver on an A1000) or are you running a macro program? Yes, *sigh*…good old Rex……..maybe this next version will include a port……and have the new, improved editor….boy would I like to see THAT! heheh I would LOVE to just be able to "record and playback" keystrokes (as in when you are changing the color attributes of a complex group of objects, and Kluster does not work…..) I have enough objects named P1, P2, L1, L2, etc…..

Scott, I use a lot of Silver function key definitions for the simple stuff (you know, SETF 11 111 and such), and then have combined that with Encore (a comml keystroke recorder/player) for other stuff. I have just started playing with Scripit, a PD event recorder/player that has REXX capability, and may change to that if it goes well. good luck… ttfn –jp–

The Statistics module in the Turbo Silver Module Pack will convert an object (or group of Silver objects) to a text file, and it can list things like the number of points, their exact locations, face colors (in English!) and object bounding boxes. There is an example of this in the Syndesis data library…

Weve all missed a few of them lately; it seems that everyone I know gets different issues at different times….. Its the issue on Animation & DTVideo…I think its the march issue (?) Great Issue! -Scott
