#C++ Question

Bjarne mentioned something interesting at dinner one evening… Since the
number of C++ programmers is doubling every 8 months, that means that the
average experience of a C++ programmer is 4 months.
Amend that estimate to the "average C++ experience." Not many new
programmers will start out on C++.

I'm not sure I'd put it that way, but yes I'd tend to think that might be
reasonable accurate. As I think I've said on BIX, I can reasonable say
that a lot of my customer purchasing Comeau C++ don't know the first thing
about it. What's interesting is how few call for tech support and how to
date not a single copy has been returned (realizing that all copies till
this Jan were strictly UNIX ones). The other side of the coin is perhaps
it is fair to say were getting a higher grade at this point as as the C++
market mature the into C++ may actually be first time programmers rather
than just neo's to a new language.
BTW, my stats are not drastically different than Bjarne's but my sales
should the number of C++ tripling every 9 months. There are thing
influencing both are numbers but it's safe to say good things are happening
and it's on the rise somehow.
