Unix IS released, and it will run on the 3000s. You'll need 5MB of RAM.
100MB of HD won't leave much room for the AmigaDOS side.

How does one go about ordering UNIX for an A3000 then? Is it a part number
that one can get from a dealer, or what. I have 18megs of ram and 430 megs
of HD space, so I should be set as far as storage and RAM go. Also, do you
know if they are going to sell ALL the UNIX goodies as 1 or 2 packages for
a stock 3000? ie; OS with open look, and X-windos etc.

Unix will become available for the 3000 and the 2500, but the date has not
yet been announced, and neither has the price.

No definite announcement has been made, so I really would just be guessing.
I understand that UNIX requires an MMU, and that the 68030 chip has one.
If that is the only requirement, then any accelerator board that has a
68030 would be able to run UNIX, but until Commodore tells us, I'd sure
hate to stick my neck out so far as to say it would definitely work!

If you look at GVP's call for programmers, they are looking for a few
good UNIX hackers. I suspect that they intend to support it, but haven't
gotten there yet.

The word as far as I know it is that CBM has fixed their UNIX version to
look for a specific PAL on the board, and if it is not theirs, then it
won't run. Probably typical CBM sour grapes because they can't produce a
competitive accessory to their own machine. Comes from too much
corporate-oriented tunnel vision. Anyway, all you may have to do is swap
out the PAL, which is socketed on the GVP board for the Commodore one and
you should be in, until they change that… but actually I believe that GVP
is working on something there anyway. They have the sockets on their board
already in place for the UNIX system.
You know I am not sure about the "sour grapes" part of your posting. I
think that is just sour grapes on your part.
